60- Firefox - web browser that is faster and safer than internet explorer. It offers tab browsing and other features. Most importantly you can add extensions to enhance firefox. One of my favorite extensions is NoScript which blocks Javascript making firefox even more safe.
- OpenOffice - is a full-featured office suite. A replacement for the expensive Microsoft office.
- Pigdin - is an Internet Messenging client which allows you to chat with others on any supported network such as AOL, MSN, Yahoo!, IRC, and Jabber. Pigdin also features some plugins to enhance features.
- AntiVir - A free anti virus software that also searches for rootkits.
- VLC Media Player - Supports almost all audio and video file types from the get go. VLC makes playing video/audio painless.
- KeePass - Stores all passwords in a database accessible by a master password. It allows you to make truly secure passwords to sites without the worry of forgetting the password since all you have to do is remember the password to the database.
- Launchy - One of my favorite programs. It is very similar to quicksilver for mac. The traditional way of launching a program in windows is by clicking start then clicking programs and then trying to find the program in that mess. Or trying to find the icon on the desktop in the mess. Launchy offers a new approach, by hitting alt-space and then typing in the name of the application you want it starts cycling through names of programs that match that. For example to open KeePass I might type Kee and it would bring up KeePass and all I have to do is hit enter. Sometimes only a letter is required, it all depends on how often you use program.
- Truecrypt - Truecrypt offers a easy, quick and truly powerful way to protect your data. It offers automatic, real-time and transparent encryption. You can camoflauge the encrypted file as any file, or you can encrypt in entire hard drive and usb drives.
- Ad-Adware - A free and incredibly useful program in getting rid of malware and spyware.
- 7-Zip - A Compression tool that supports most formats.
