Halloween is near, and you're looking forward to decking the halls with haunted delights. You don't need to spend a fortune at the store to set a spooky scene. Homemade Halloween Decorations are cheap and cheerful! This hub will show you how to make your own Halloween decorations. Halloween decorations create the mood for a really scary party. This is the one night each year when we look forward to creepy things. Make sure you get to scare people in your home with your Halloween homemade decorations, after all, that's what Halloween is all about.

Wish you Happy Haunting and Pleasant Screams!

Homemade Halloween Decoration 1 - Hanging Ghosts

Squish a wad of toilet paper or tissues together to form a small ball about the size of a golf ball. Place the ball in the middle of a white tissue. Gather the tissue around the ball and tie a string around it. When you turn it upside down, the hanging part of the tissue becomes the ghost and the ball becomes the head. Use a black marker to draw a face on the ghost. Attach a string or ribbon and hang.

You can also make variations of this ghost using larger paper such as sheets of newsprint (before it is painted on) or white tissue paper sheets. You can use golf balls or rubber balls instead of making paper balls.

Homemade Halloween Decoration 2 - Icky Cobwebs

Cut some string into 4 foot lengths and tape them to the ceiling. You should have a very dim room for this. Just before the victim arrives you can hold a bowl of water up to the string and get it wet. When people walk in the wet, slimy string will brush across their foreheads and scare them!

Homemade Halloween Decoration 3 - Monster Footprints

With a magic marker, draw a footprint in a big sponge. Cut out the footprint. Pour washable paint in an 1/8 inch aluminum pan. Press the sponge in the paint and sponge footsteps up your sidewalk to your front door for trick-or-treaters to follow, or around the side of your dark, spooky house. Flip the sponge upside down to stamp the other foot.

Homemade Halloween Decoration 5 - Glowing Ghosts

A glowing ghost is the perfect example of how simple and fun making Halloween decorations can be. Activate a mini glow stick, slip it inside a balloon, and blow up the balloon. Position the knot of the balloon at the top center and use a black marker to make a face. Use a thin or transparent white cloth to cover the balloon, cut a small hole in the cloth and push the knot through so you can tie a string to it and hang it from a tree, your door, or a lamppost in your front yard. Your glowing ghost will blow in the wind.

Homemade Halloween Decoration 6 - Living Room Decoration

Furniture covered in a messy fashion with white sheets makes any house look as if it was abandoned years ago. Add in some ghostly window treatments by hanging shredded gauze in the windows for curtains. Place a hidden fan near the gauze to create movement. You can also cut out ghost silhouettes to hang in the windows out of the gauze.

Homemade Halloween Decoration 7 - Egg Carton Bats

One of the easier homemade Halloween crafts is to make bats out of egg cartons. This is practically no cost depending on how fancy you want to get with the bats. Take and egg carton and cut off sections so that each piece has three egg holders to make one bat. The two egg holders on the sides are supposed to be the wings. So cut a scalloped shape on the front and back of the side sections to create the wing shapes.

Make a hole in the middle of the middle egg holder so that you can later hang it up. Now paint the egg holders black. After the paint has dried, stick on eyes or use two pieces of white paper with black dots to make eyes. You can get creative by adding fangs, glittery wings and other personal touches to their bats. String up the bats from ceilings and the inside of windows.

Homemade Halloween Decoration 8 - Canisters of Yuck

A variety of canisters full of decaying items is perfect for your Halloween table. Gather canisters of all different sizes. Create murky or bloody preservative fluid for some by adding green or red food coloring plus a tablespoon or two of milk to water. Place plastic insects and body parts, witch or alien Halloween masks, floating eyeballs and tiny shrunken apple heads (peeled apples with carved faces that have dried up) in separate jars. Add a piece of ragged gauze and waxed string to the lids for an eerie effect.

Homemade Halloween Decoration 9 - Halloween Tree

Put bare branches in a vase. Paint small Christmas tree balls black, white, and orange. Draw Halloween figures on them. Hang the balls on the branches. You may also make your own Halloween tree decorations such as ghosts, black cat, witches, and spiders cut out cardboard. Paint them and hang them on the tree. You can also create a great Halloween garland with popcorn painted orange.

Homemade Halloween Decoration 10 - Halloween Illuminations

Paint small jars in black, white and orange. Draw some Halloween shapes on them and insert a tea light candle in each jar. For instance, paint a white jar, draw Scream murderer's eyes and mouth and voila, you have a very special ghost light. Place the Halloween candles on a black tray, insert mini pumpkins, maple berries and leaves, etc.

To make ghosts for outside, buy a cheap package of small white trash bags, crumple old paper or place a golf ball in the bag, secure under the the ball area, cut the bottom of the bag opening in a zig zag style cut. Use paper clips for the hangers.

My grandkids have a blast making them. They can be decorated with markers for the face, and they are reusable the next year.
