Plentiful Jobs in 10 Occupations

Though 2018, the following jobs are forecast to increase very quickly. These are job titles that I have found with increasing frequency among the Top 10 or Top 20 Fastest Growing Jobs in a number of US states and metropolitan areas.

Average salaries of these Top 10 Jobs range from $29,000 annually to approximately $86,000 per year and six of them are in healthcare.

We may even see a comeback of employer incentive bonuses, higher salaries, and more generous benefits offered in order to fill these high demand positions. In fact, higher incentives and salaries are already being paid to Registered Nurses (RNs) in some US states that are looking in other states and Canada for nurses to fill a on time shortage that has lasted two decades and will continue through several more.

Healthcare Professions

Physical Therapy Assistant

After a personal or work related injury or during a long-term chronic condition of arthritis and other joint problems, people require the services of qualified Physical Therapists need qualified assistants. Associates degrees can be earned in a classroom or online from colleges or vocational schools. The average annual salary for a Physical Therapy Assistant was over $44,000 in 2007, according to the US Department of Labor.

Dental Hygienist

This job title began to take on more of the dentist’s duties in the latter part of the 20thcentury, a needed departure from the days in which a dentist did all the work himself in a private practice. Qualified hygienists can perform dental cleanings, X-rays, and other treatment and prevention measures..A vocational school, community college, university, or online dental hygiene class al;lows professionals to enter a career set to grow over 30% in the next decade as national populations increase in size. In 2007, hygienists earned an avenge of about $65,000 or more per year.

Nurses - especially Travel Nurses

The need for nurses is expected to grow considerably as the population continues to age. Hospitals, doctors' offices, clinics, and nursing homes will need nurses with a bachelor's degree or an associate's degree from an approved nursing program. The 2.5 million nurses in this country made, on average, over $62,000 annually in 2007.

Skin Care Specialist

Skin Care Specialists may also be called Estheticians, but some have more advanced medical training and serve in physicians’ offices. Average annual pay is about $31,000, but can increase with level of training, the additional of related healthcare or medical training, and work setting. A specialist within a large medical practice will earn more than a counterpart in a salon, depending upon the city. Skin Care Specialists are used in cosmetic surgery practices as well.

Substance Abuse and Behavioral Disorder Counselor

This is a hot job title in many major metropolitan areas that have an ongoing program of revitalization in the urban or downtown districts. Partnerships of local business, universities, and government have gone in to rebuild these areas and create new jobs to help the current residents and to draw new dwellers into the cities. Counselors are needed to help some of these individuals and families to find living wage jobs and the support services they need in order to succeed in becoming – or staying – independent and contributing member citizens of their towns.

These counselors work in addiction recovery & prevention that target alcohol, drugs, gambling, eating disorders, chronic unemployment, and other related conditions. A Bachelors degree in counseling and an internship lead to an annual income of approximately $39,000 per year, measured in 2007. Online training is available.

Veterinary Techs: Technologists and Technicians (equivalent of Nurses)

Animals need healthcare, too. Veterinary techs are the nurses that work with pets and work animals. They also are required in local and national zoos, aquariums, and corporations such as Disney, BuschGardens, and Sea World or other parks. An Associate or Bachelors degree program in veterinary technology training is needed for this career path. The average salary in 2007 was about $29,000. Online training programs are available and very effective.

Accountants – especially Forensic Accountants.

Considering the amount of fraud, financial mistakes, and failure to file and pay income taxes, Forensic Accounting is growing exponentially. IN addition, a new educational program called the Masters of Executive Accounting is designed to teach corporate executives it eh operations of forensic accounting at the top levels of the business world in order to prevent problems. A bachelor's degree in accounting allows professionals to earn an annual average salary of over $63,000 as of the last updated figures from 2007 according to the US Labor Department.

Computer Software Engineer – especially Applications

Computer hardware and software are becoming part of every business and employment endeavor – rocket science to grocery store cash registers and inventory systems to insurance databases. The National Medical Database requires these professionals for certain. Computer science is everywhere – I knew the person that wrote the software programs for the 1996 Summer Olympics, and in the 21st century, this job has exploded to one of several times the size. The 2010 US Census is another example of a project that requires Computer Software Engineers and the Census operates every year, in data analysis and the taking of special censuses during off years. Some US cities are growing so quickly, that the 10-year census is outdated a few months after it is completed.

Training is required in both mathematics and computer science for jobs in Computer Engineering and courses are available online from many postsecondary institutions. A Bachelors degree in computer science (CS) or engineering (CSE) will offer the potential of an average wage of $86,000, as of 2007.

Elementary School Teacher – Grades Pre K- 5, Mainstream and Special Education

As with the US nursing shortage, retirement and lack of new trainees has produced a K-5 teacher’s shortage in some states. Some states are experiencing a most severe shortage in Special Education Teachers.

Teachers need at least a Bachelor's degree in education and Teacher’s Certification by state boards of education. In some states, teachers must earn an addition Masters Degree in education within 10 years of initial employment in order to continue teaching. The US Labor Department has reported in 2007 that the average annual salary for an elementary school teacher was $50,000. Wages vary by state and school district.

Environmental Science and Protection Technician

Technicians apply the products and services developed by the Environmental engineer into practice and make them work. America is “going green”, some regions more quickly than others. Part of this trend is the creation and harnessing of alternative sources of energy. The Southwest is particularly professional in this aim, producing green oil form algae and developing other sources of fuel.

Technicians monitor the pollutants and wastes in the national environment. They look for new methods of eliminating environmental stresses on the world. An Associates degree in applied science is the entry point to employment. Average wages were about $42,000 in 2007..

I hope you can get to the bottom of the panic attacks. Any food allergies, by any chance? So many conditions are caused by so many triggers - or have I been watching "House, MD" too much? ;)

Best thoughts anyway!
