Top 10 Naddy's Favorite Things
63HubNugget contender for the week of May 21-27 2009. Winner #3 announced May 28th 2009. Hank and I would like to thank everyone who supported us and everyone who came by for a read. We're glad you enjoy what we've got to write about.
And so it goes...
Alas, a few days have gone by since I wrote Top 10 Hank's Favorite Things. I was hoping Hank would follow suit and give me a peak at my Top 10. With full on commentary. No holding back. Well, the title is as far as Hank would go. I asked him about it and he said, "There's only a top one for me and that is that you are always right, dear."
Now, in relationships, people's choice of communication and their timing, don't necessarily coinside or join expectations with their partner. Things are messy this way, sticky like sweet honey. This is a good thing. You don't love your love because they are your twin, you love them because they are who they are. You love them because of and despite your diferences.
I respect Hanks choice to not join in the top ten game. And in response, I will do a Top 10 Naddy's Favorite Things of my own.
Why do one at all? Why not just drop it? Good question. Because by doing a top ten of yourself you can really learn a lot. It causes you to not only focus on yourself, and on how another sees you, but also forces you to narrow yourself to the nitty gritty. It's an excersize of sorts. It's why they are so popular. Out of all the possibilites in the world, 10 is such a miniscule amount. But it does allow for enough of a window view autobiography, if you will.
As always, I hope you enjoy, have a good time of this and perhaps be inspired to make one of your own.
For those interested this is a 30 in 30 HubChallenge hub.
1. I love to play with time.
Time is something I like to have a play with. Hank may stare off into space, ignoring it all together, but when it comes to being somewhere, rest assured you won't find him late.
Me, on the other hand, well, lets just say I love a challenge. How late can I be and still get away with it without any excuses. Excuses aren't for me. Some may think I'm what I like to reffer to as being "Time Challenged". But that's actually not the case. I love experiencing time as it occurs in other zones.
It's no wonder I'm a big fan of The Twilight Zone.
2. I love things neat and organized.
I love to walk into a neat and tidy home, where everything is in its place. I'm a freak about this. Over the years I've gotten on Hanks' nerves like you wouldn't believe. Don't get me wrong, Hank loves things clean and tidy too. But I have to do something about it. Constantly. You can find me wiping things down all the time. I make the bed the second I get out of bed. Lysol wipes have been my best cleaning buddies for a few years now. And as far as organization goes, well, I'm the bees knees. I can declutter a space and make it both beautiful and useful no matter what condition it's in to begin with. I swell with pride when I'm done. Hank swells with relief that I'm finally ready for a relaxing sit.
3. I love magazines.
That's right, I'm a magazine lover. Magazines inspire me and I can never seem to throw them out. I have stacks of magazines that practically take over book shelves. I read the articles and flip through the pictures. I tear pages out and place those favorite pages in folders or scrapbooks. I have favorites. I store some away and pull others out. I love magazines about travel, people, gardens, architecture, cooking, and design. I love foreign magazines, thick magazines, thin magazines, popular magazines, unpopular magazines, neat and tidy magazines. Hank is not so much a fan of my magazines. To many and too much money spent. But truth be told, most of my subscriptions are free. They are either gifts or happened to come with something I bought. So lucky me and happy magazine-ing!
4. I have pieces of paper that I've kept for over a quarter of a century.
I hoard pieces of paper. Blank or written on. To most they may seem useless, but to me, they hold important information or memories. I can't seem to throw away any of the kids' stuff. So all their schoolwork, art work, found notes and love letters, I've got. I've got directions to places that don't exist anymore, lists of phone numbers that have long been changed or out of order, maps and pamphlets to places we have visited or wanted to visit. Whole boxes of them. I rarely go through them, but they're there, just in case. I figure you never know when you'll need to go back and reminisce, when you might get amnesia and need a nudge in the right direction, or when someone else will wonder about something. I really ought to get it all organized, but quite frankly there's just too much to sift through and I'm occupied with life most of the time.I've bought organizers and special bins to store them in a nicer way, but I always end up using them for something else. I know what Hank thinks of these boxes, and while they've almost been thrown out a few times during "spring cleanings", he's graciously obliged me. Thank you, Hank.
5. I love Bees.
I love bees. I love everything they do. I love everything they produce. I love pictures of them, plants that are polloated by them, things that they produce, and thing that can be produced by their wax and their honey. Hank is allergic to bees. I love Hank more, so I've long ago set aside my dream of becoming a bee keeper gal. And yes, I love The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd.
6. I love to eat out.
Now, I'm a good good cook. I've been known to invent some unforgettable recipes that people ooh and ahh over for years. Hank is a fantastic cook as well. But I'm partial to eating out and I like to budget this love of mine into our schedules every time I can. I suppose after years of washing dishes and pots by hand and cooking over a hot stove so meals could be devoured or ignored in five minutes, I finally decided to just say no to that sometimes (Hank will argue and say it's more often than just sometimes) and yes to "let's go out to eat". I figure if someone is getting paid to feed and pamper me, who am I to refute when I do love it so very much.
7. I'm a joker.
While Hank loves to play dress-up, I like to play practical jokes on him. I can't resist. It's much fun and I like to think it keeps him on his toes and brings some spontaneity into his life. I once bought him a special toothbrush. He was in much need of a new one, and as I often do, I purchased a few toothbrushes for the family. I spotted a nice big red one with a huge flat head. It looked like a horse's toothbrush. Didn't know this at the time, but it was for cleaning your dentures. Well, I thought he'd be quite pleased and feel nice and silly brushing his teeth with his new, big, red, toothbrush. He wasn't. Sorry about that hank (hee-hee). But I sure had fun knowing I'd gotten it for him. Silly things make me laugh.
8. I love to dance.
Well, I can't imaging anyone wouldn't. It's lovely. Doesn't matter to what, if it lifts my feet, I find myself gliding to it. No, I'm not a fabulous dancer by any means. I can tap, I'll say that for myself. Shirley temple and all those movies of the 30's and 40's were quite inspirational to young girls everywhere. I think all us girls took tap when we were young. Well, it spawned from there. I like to liken myself to a mix of the three greats: Ginger Rogers, Elaine Bennet, and The Solid Gold Dancers. (Okay that's my sense of humor talking, haha.) I don't always look right doing it, but I do love to dace. Henry, now he's a great dancer. He can spin me around any time, and he does, despite my occasional two left feet.
9. I love the green, I love the desert.
Unfortunately, I don't have a green thumb when it comes to greenery, but I do love it. I can't resist buying plants for the house or the yard. This is upsetting to Hank because I'm throwing money away on trying the impossible. A room isn't complete without a nice green plant of some sort. Plants bring a room to life. I have yet to bring a plant to life.
On the other hand...
I love the desert. The desert in bloom is one of the most beautiful things in the world to me. Now, while I even kill cacti (yes, I do and I'm not joking about this, ask Hank), I can't get enough. Some of the most intriguing and mysterious things grow and live in the desert. Hank needs redwoods and forests. I need to see as far as the eye can see. All shades of browns and reds. We've compromised, Hank and I. We live where it's green, and go to the botanical's for the cacti. But I can't say as I blame him, which is why I never pushed the subject; rattlers and scorpions are best viewed from afar, not one's garden.
10. I love The Golden Girls
I can watch The Golden Girls three times a day, and have. I have a house robe with a top zipper that I like to wear when I watch it, just like the Dorothy. Late night is the best, with cheesecake of course. Hank is rather tired of the episodes, but he sits for a watch in his favorite recliner, and drifts off into a nap, waking in alarm when I can't contain my laughter.
You voted us to the top five!
Some used to say we were hubnugget contenders. Now they say we're winners! Thanks for all who voted. Hank and I are thrilled.

Very observant Laughing Mom. We mom's know everything, don't we? I think we're all like that. Well, at least you and I. And Frieda. =D
What a delight to read. Thanks you brightened my day.
Good afternoon, chicamom85. Pleasure to have to stop in for a read. So glad you enjoyed.
I was howling with delight at your golden girls video. They are a treasure. Thanks for the uplifting hub. ;)
The Golden Girls clip - brilliant "....in black ...." - the timing there ws spot-on ... and I love Elaine's dance.
What shines through here, as in your other hubs, is how deep respect and love in a relationship make compromise and acceptance a joy to give rather than a reluctance.
Really cute, and I love that Swing Time video! :D
Oh I tell you, Iphi, I get a kick out of those every time I watch them. I had to stick them in. What you detect is a major part of what keeps us so together and in love, I have to say. I suppose that does show through, doesn't it.
suzanne, that was a good find, wasn't it. It took me forever to narrow down what I was going to put in that spot. Almost longer than it took to write this heehee. I have to say the search for the videos was the funnest part. :)
I love this....love sure does last forever....forever can be in one smile.....thanks! :)
Hi there Tom. You're absolutely right about that, and it most certainly can be in one smile. In one moment that lasts forever. Haha. Makes me chuckle at the thought of how many of those moments Hank and I have had. And you're very welcome.
Naddy, you are such a delight, and so is everything you write! And congrats on this hub being a Hubnugget! Woo hoo! You rock!
Such a pleasure to see you JamaGenee. Thank you. It's exciting, isn't it? Can't beat that!
Hello Naddy, I sat down here for awhile and read your hub with real pleasure. You seem such a delightful woman to get to know. And I have enjoyed reading your top ten favorite things. I was smiling the entire time and I can just imagine you and Hank together. LOL Thanks for bringing me a wonderful treat on my Saturday morning.
I was going to pop in here and surprise you for being a hubnugget nominee...but I see you already know about it. So I would like to congratulate you and dance with you and would like to make sure you are on the roll of promoting your hub to all people that you know. Even non hubbers can vote. :-) So start calling and emailling and whatever...
Have fun with the nuggets Naddy.See you around HP!

Hello ripplemaker! We've heard a lot about you from Frieda. She just loves you. And thank you so much. A little dance sounds wonderful. Saturday morning? Lucky gal. It's still Friday here and almost time for bed or a show. Glad you came by for a read. Thank you so much again.
You are most welcome. And when you wake up, the sun will be shining brightly (uuuh is it sunny over there?) and may its warmth remind of you of life's loving abundance. Frieda is a wonderful soul and many thanks for her kind words. :-) Take care Hank and Naddy...
Very nice hub, Naddy. What I like the most (besides your name of HeSaid SheSaid) is that your love and respect for each other comes shining through. I went back to look at your list and happened to see another comment that said the same thing, so it is obviously so true. We also may be kindred spirits in that I also love greenery and have killed most every plant I've ever touched! My late husband used to tease me and say that the plants shuddered at Home Depot when I walked past, afraid that I was going to buy them....unfortunately, I am not a dancer, but I do love to watch Elaine dance and Seinfeld is one of my top shows ever to watch. I also enjoyed the Golden Girls and Sophia was always my favorite. Keep these hubs coming. I am looking forward to future posts.
Very fun read... Congrats on being a hubnugget nominee.
Ripplemaker, thank you! And I'll pass it along to Frieda too when I hear from her. She's got her hands full this aftenoon with something for hubpages, but I'm suppose to hear from you when she gets back.
Thank you Connie. Hank and I truly are kindred spirits. I can't say it's always been easy, but then we were never ones to go to bed angry. We're working on those hubs. Keep getting sidetracked with reading, but we'll get there. A bit behind I think. Thank goodness we only signed up for the 30 in 30!
Richard, thank you. It was a fun surprise. So glad everyone enjoyed and hope you all come away with something, even if it's just inspiration.
This has been a very enjoyable read. And it is nice to meet someone else who can kill a cactus. My green thumb leaves a lot to be desired! :D
I am so glad I'm not the only one. Hank couldn't believe it. I suppose neither could I. But THAT is a true story! I wasn't joking or being funny. But it always gives me a big laugh. I just keep trying. I think I'm getting better. I think.
I hope my vote counted, I may have been a wee late, It must've been that Carpenter Bee held me up.LOL I do love bees. I used to gather hunny in a pot. Never got stung. Now I know who PG talked about and so glad to meet you my dear. Great Hub too I might add. Now I need to play ketchup and read awhile. Then I got to tell my story if Wee One will let me. hugs now from a fat Walrus
Congrats on this hub being the #3 Hubnugget! Okay, so it's not #1, but 3 is better than 5! ;D
Oh hello there mr. walrus! Good to see you in this neck of the woods. Thanks you for voting.
JamaGenee, are we really? I need to be on top of these things! Thank you for letting us know. Oh being in there was surprise and wonderful enough. Number don't matter in the end. Number 5, is that a hint? I need to look. Haven't checked e-mail today. Oh I guess I'd better change our profiles now too. Busy night.
That youngster Freida said I should drop in and say Hi.
So G'day Naddy and Hank and congratulations on your HubNugget placing.
The young people these days what do they know. I ask you ?
btw, This is a beautiful Hub, but I must rush, gotta change the battery in my hearing aid !
Well you tell Frieda we say hello. We shoud be seing her this afternoon, so I suppose we could tell her just the same.
Thank you much, it was exciting, wasn't it? And I'd suppose by the looks of it around HubPages, they do know quite a bit, now don't they. After all, you came our way, Heehee.
Thank you Ag, much appreciated. Hank has needed a hearing aid change for quite some time, but he likes the quiet and I assume he like to torment me. That's okay. I know how to yell when I need to. =)
Well I have come up with the ideas for 3 of Naddy's top 10 things, but I suppose the point is moot now.
Hank
Ever feel like you're Elaine?
Madame, of course, was the best of the Solid Gold Dancers. (Couldn't resist)

Well, I'm glad you took it on yourself, Naddy. What a great list! According to physics, a bumble bee should not be able to fly. But he does. And defies all laws of 'how things are supposed to be',doing them his way, and benefiting the world around him. Kinda reminds me of you.
