Intro

This list of Top Ten Sci-FI shows, is loosely based on the AFI's definition of "science fiction". A genre that marries a scientific or technological premise with imaginative speculation. Also, you can only pick one show from a series like Star Trek. Enjoy the pictures and videos that go with each show.


#10 - Farscape

This series lasted four seasons from 1999 to 2003. It was an Australian-American television series filmed in Australia and produced for the Sci-Fi Channel and the Nine Network. A diverse collection of people that are escaping from corrupt authorities called Peacekeepers.

#9 - Babylon 5

 Aired for 5 seasons from 1994 - 1998. The show centered on the Babylon 5 space station: a focal point for politics, diplomacy, and conflict during the years 2257-2262. The show also created a spin-off called Crusade and 6 tv movies.



#8 - Stargate SG-1

 The show aired for 10 seasons from 1997 to 2007. The show was an adaptation to the 1994 film Stargate. The first 5 seasons were aired on Showtime and then moved to the SC-Fi channel for the remaining 5 seasons.

The show begins 1 year after the events from the movie. It follows the SG-1 team who travels through space defending Earth from alien attacks. The show starred Richard Dean Anderson.

#7 - Quantum Leap

 The show aired for 5 seasons from 1989 to 1993 and starred Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell. The show is based on Sam's (Scott Bakula) time travels that were a result from a science experiment gone wrong.

#6 - Lost in Space

 The show aired for 3 seasons from 1965 to 1968. In 1997, the Earth suffers from overpopulation and natural resource depletion. Professor John Robinson (Guy Williams), his wife, Maureen (June Lockhart), their children, Judy (Marta Kristen), Penny (Angela Cartwright), Will (Billy Mumy), and their friend and pilot, Major Don West (Mark Goddard), are chosen to travel on the Jupiter 2 to Alpha Centauri to search for a habitable planet for mankind to colonize.

#5 - The Twilight Zone

 The original series ran 156 episodes from 1959 - 1964. There were two revivals of the show, the first was from 1985-1989 and the second revival was from 2002-2003. For a grand total of over 260 episodes. A series of self contained episodes that dove into a multitude of topics from sci-fi to horror.



#4 - X Files

The show lasted 9 seasons, airing from 1993 to 2002 starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as Fox and Mulder. The show centered around Fox and Mulder's investigations for the truth about conspiracies and aliens. X-File also spawned 2 full length movies.

#3 - Doctor Who

 The longest running sci-fi series in television history. Originally airing in 1963, there have been over 750 episodes through a multitude of cast ensembles. The show focuses on a time-traveler, "The Doctor", who travels through time solving problems and facing a large array of life forms.

#2 - Star Trek Original Series

 The show aired 3 seasons from 1966-1969 and was created by Gene Roddenberry. Set in the 23rd century, the show focuses on the adventures of the Starship Enterprise led by Captain James T. Kirk. The show starred Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner), his First Officer Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy), and his Chief Medical Officer Leonard McCoy (DeForest Kelley).



#1 - Battlestar Galactica (2004)

The show aired for 4 seasons from 2004-2009. It was an adaptation to the original Battelstar Galactica from 1978-1979. The show followed the survivors of the 12 colonies as they avoided extermination at the hands of the Cylons. Their goal, to fins a new home known as Earth. The show starred Edward James Olmos (Commander Adama) and Mary McDonnell (Presiden Laura Roslin).
