Top 10 Video Game Babes and their Movie Likeness
65
Recently, the movie Resident Evil: Extinction caught my interest and since I've never seen the first two movies, I spent the weekend catching up. Now, I played the video game Resident Evil and I'm impressed that the actress playing Jill Valentine RE: Apocalypse was a dead ringer for the video game vixen. It occurred to me that quite a few movies are based on video games. Many of them tout heroines in lead roles. But how well do these movies reflect the video game characters they portray?
Here is a list of noteworthy video game babes and their silver screen equivalents, from the least fitting to born-to-play-that-video-game-babe:

Resident Evil - Extinction (Widescreen Special Edition)
Price: $5.25
List Price: $14.94 |
10. Helena Douglas, DOA, played by Sarah Carter
Dead or Alive is a popular video game that was first published for Sega Saturn back in 1996. Since then, there have been several editions of the game the latest of which is scheduled in 2008 (Dead or Alive 5 and Dead or Alive: Online). The movie, however, receives mix reviews with video game fans giving more favorable nods. In terms of game to movie likeness, Helena Douglas who plays Sarah Carter is number 10 on our list.
Sarah Carter also stars in Skinwalkers, a movie about a feuding clan of modern day werewolves. It's a pretty good movie.
9. Christie Allen, DOA, played by Holly Valance
One great thing about the movie, DOA: Dead or Alive, is that they casted five girls. That's practically half of the list so I didn't have to spend too much time researching. Another great thing about the movie, the girls are hot. But how do you choose likeness among them? For Christie, it's simply the roots of her hair. Holly matches them well.

7. Ayane, DOA, played by Natassia Malthe
Back to the girls of DOA. I'm going with Natassia's purple hair to lift her likeness factor above that of Christie. Natassia joins Sarah Carter in Skinwalkers. She's also playing another video game babe as the starring role in BloodRayne II: Deliverance. Remember that! Natassia will be a good trivia question in the future.

D.O.A. - Dead or Alive
Price: $3.63
List Price: $12.95 |
6. Tina Armstrong, DOA, played by Jamie Pressley
The likeness in this one is a little more obvious...it's the blonde hair, silly. That's why she's floating above the other DOA girls in the likeness factor. Ms. Pressley can be seen in the TV show, My Name is Earl.

5. Claire Redfield, Resident Evil, played by Ali Larter
From the movie Resident Evil: Extinction, Ali Larter plays Claire Redfield. Rumors indicate that Milla Jovovich is no longer interested in continuing her role as Alice (who is not in the video games by the way). The ending of RE: Extinction made it possible that future movies can center on Claire.
4. BloodRayne, BloodRayne, played by Kristanna Loken
BloodRayne is based on a half-human, half-vampire who is fighting to save humanity from other vampires. Sounds like a female Blade, but the movie nowhere near as entertaining. However, BloodRayne the movie is not as bad as the critics would have it. I do think that Michael Madsen is out of place as a medieval vampire hunter. The whole sword and sorcery genre is simply not for him. In any case, on looks alone, Kristanna Loken lands our number 4 spot for video game babe likeness.
3. Chun Li, Street Fighter, played by Ming Na
Chun Li is considered by many gamers as the first real video game heroine. And a pixel babe to boot. In Street Fighter the movie, she was played by Ming Na, the same actress who brought Dr. Aki Ross to life in Final Fantasy. While the movie is just so-so and not the best Jean-Claude Van Damme movie, Chun Li gets the number 3 spot in video game babe movie likeness.
2. Jill Valentine, Resident Evil, played by Sienna Guillory
This heroine prompted me to research and write this article. Sienna's attitude in Resident Evil: Apocalypse completely captured Jill Valentine. Not only that, the costume and makeup artist did an excellent job. It's really hard to argue why she's not number 1.
And the top spot for movie likeness of a video game babe goes to ...

1. Lara Croft, Tomb Raider, played by Angelina Jolie
You're either saying, "Well, duh!" or "No way, Sienna should be number 1." I thought hard about this one until I realize that the makeup artists had to do so much more with Sienna in order to make her look like Jill Valentine. Just Google pictures of her and you'll see that in real life, Sienna looks far differently from Jill Valentine. Meanwhile, Angelina, maybe more so back when she was casted, looks like Lara Croft simply by just walking around. When I heard the announcement that Angelina was going to play Lara Croft, I instantly understood the connection and thought that she'd be perfect for the role.
Honorable mentions
Kasumi, DOA, played by Devon Aoki
Another DOA girl. Devon Aoki just does not look anything like Kasumi. But I do like Devon Aoki in Sin City and look forward to see more of her in Sin City 2.Sonya Blade, Mortal Kombat, played by Bridgette Wilson
Not much to say here, but I just don't see the likeness.|
