Top 10 Weird Business Words: Their Actual Meaning and Their Redneck Meaning

There are a lot of business terms out there to describe every aspect of the business world. Many Americans are businessmen and are familiar with some funky terms. My dad being a businessman, he does just that. He uses some weird words which got me thinking: I am going to write a hub on weird business words and tell people what they mean! Then, I saw how a redneck could view these words… So here goes –

Entrepreneur – an entrepreneur is simply someone who starts or has procession over a business, enterprise, or venture. An entrepreneur must be a hard worker, be able to get things done, and sacrifice a lot in order to generate success from his or her business. He will also be very intelligent and have sharp thinking skills. Entrepreneurs have created world-wide successful businesses.

A redneck sees this person as someone who owns a beer company

Fiscal – usually used in the phrase, ‘fiscal year’, it is something used for calculating annual revenue from the business created by the entrepreneur.

You know when you put your hand to your face and act like your calling someone? That’s what a redneck sees this word as. A ‘fist call’.

Franchise – is what business relies on. A franchise is basically the foundation of a successful negotiation. The franchiser allows the company or business to sell its products or goods to create revenue. The franchise then makes money off of the selling.

Rednecks get this confused with Fran’s french fries.

Liquidity – can be used for not only business, but investments and through the economy. A liquidity, through a market system, is an economic resource that buys or sells with having little affect on the price. It can also be used in describing a business’ ability to meet negotiations and pay what they need to pay.

When ice turns into water, a redneck says, “This her is getting all liquidy!”

Portfolio – most business have these. Portfolios are just collections of investments kept and maintained by the business or person handling them.

A redneck’s favorite fishing spot: Port Folio

Recession - this, to me, is very confusing. Recession is used when there is immediate downfall in the economic status, what the U.S. is currently dealing with. The problem is that ‘recession’ has the word ‘recess’ in it. Isn’t recess supposed to be a time for fun and games at school? Recess is probably every kid’s favorite subject in school. But instead, it’s used in business terms as immediate downfall which isn’t too fun…

Rednecks do see this term as an actual recess period.

Revenue – ok, now we are bouncing back into the good zone. Revenue is used in business for something, like money or wealth, gained by a business or individual. Most companies track revenue monthly or yearly. Income has a lot to do with revenue.

Rednecks use this term saying, “ ’Rev’ that ‘new’ truck up!”

Boom – well in business terms, it’s not what we see it as a big explosion. A boom, in economic terms, is a growth in revenue or wealth. America has seen many booms, hopefully we will see one soon.

When the redneck stops up the toilet, it goes boom!

Broker – in business terms it means someone who is basically the middle man in negotiations and business deals.

In redneck terms, it means something is REALLY broke. “I tell yer wat, that’s broker than the first?!”

Gross Profit and Gross Domestic – a gross profit is a term meaning the money after all the deals are made and withheld. This is subtracted from the total net sale. A gross domestic is the total value of the goods provided by U.S. companies.

Rednecks see gross profits as gum stuck on their dollar bill they made selling left over beer that got old. They see gross domestic as their neighbor’s police call they heard on their scanner.

I thought it was Willie also! Great hub. Very, very clever definitions (the actual business ones are a bit yawny for me, even though I'm a s'posed ta be an entrepreneur). The redneck ones are a riot.

I was sure you were going to do something different with fiscal -- in redneck parlance it's PHYSICAL labor:-). MM
