Electric Transportation

Peachtree City is 30 miles SSW of Atlanta and Number 9 on Money Magazine's 2009 list of Best Places to Live in America. One of the reasons for this is the city's commitment to alternative energy. Another reason is that the number of jobs available and listed has increased 61% from March 2008 - September 2009.

Peachtree City is one of the youngest planned cities in Georgia, founded in 1959 and located at the intersection of Georgia State Routes 54 and 74. It was originally developed into four independent villages, with different shopping centers, rec centers, parks, and schools.

The open space and recreation system of Peachtree City is well known, because it offers several high-quality golf courses and a unique system of golf cart paths that enable people to get to any point in the city. In fact, an electric golf cart is the extra set of wheels for the majority of households in town. The local police department operates a golf cart fleet as well. Not only that, but kids ages 12 and older can drive them legally with parent up front to supervise. Fifteen-year-olds with legal auto driving learner’s permit can operate them alone and many drive them to school.

Peachtree City has also been named one of the Best Places to Retire in America and the numerous golf courses locally have been part of the draw for retirees. The nearly 100 miles of golf cart paths make transportation easy for senior citizens as well.

If it weren't for the humidity, I'd still be living in the South, Patty. I took my bachelor's degree at Birmingham-Southern College, quite close to Atlanta, and I miss the Southern way of life.

I am from the South and Atlanta rocks. I've noticed that many people in CA claim that they love Atlanta. However, I've heard that city has become just as expensive as Los Angeles, CA.

Peach Tree City sounds like a wonderful alternative.

I've also heard great things about Charlotte N.C. economy.

Thanks,

Stacey and Bobby

Thanks, Patty. That was a great Hub about Peachtree, GA. Here's one you should do. It's called The Villages, FL which is located about an hours drive north of Orlando. I live in Orlando, and I'm sorry to say I've never visited The Villages but I have a friend and his parents live there and love it. "Free" year-round golf, retirement folks mainly, and a lovely atmosphere. Maybe you should research this one and do a blog. With kindness, Don White dusanotes
