If you are looking for ways to stop snoring, you have come to the right place! These tips will hopefully help you to minimize those problems and possibly even improve your quality of life. Keep in mind though that while these tips may help the majority of people who want to stop snoring, their effectiveness may vary from person to person. In any case, they are generally safe to do, so it wouldn’t hurt to give them a try.

  1. Raise your head when sleeping by either using a thicker pillow than usual, or more than one pillow.
  2. Avoid taking substances that can aggravate your snoring by overly relaxing your air passages. These would include alcoholic drinks, sleeping pills, tranquilizers, and even antihistamines.
  3. Try to stay away from dairy-based products such as milk and ice cream just before going to bed. These can cause a lot of mucus to accumulate in your system, making you more susceptible to snoring.
  4. If you are obese or otherwise overweight, getting rid of some of that weight may help you stop snoring due to more space freed up in your air passages.
  5. Try sleeping on your side instead of on your back. If you have trouble staying on your side for long, you may want to sew a tennis ball onto the back of your shirt. It sounds a bit extreme but it may just help keep you from lying on your back!
  6. Try to go to bed at the same time every night.
  7. Try drinking a tablespoon of honey just before going to bed.
  8. Avoid eating huge meals just before bedtime. Going to bed full can put too much pressure on the diaphragm and restrict breathing by closing up the air passages.
  9. Minimize your intake of sweets, chocolates, pizza, and other rich foods.
  10. Try changing out your usual soft pillow for a firmer one. Pillows that are too soft tend to relax your throat muscles too much, thereby narrowing down the air passages.
  11. Go for a steam inhalation treatment just before going to bed or use a humidifier in your room. Both of these techniques will reduce blockage in your lungs and keep the tissues of your throat moist.
  12. Use nasal strips just before going to bed. These strips help open your nostrils and increase the amount of air that you breathe in.
  13. Try to stop smoking, or at least reduce the amount that you smoke everyday. Not only will this benefit your health in many ways, it will also reduce throat inflammation and swelling that can lead to snoring.
  14. Look into the anti-snoring remedies that available on the market. These come in either pill or nasal spray form.
  15. Finally, see a doctor if you are not able to stop snoring in spite of your best efforts.

How many days do we wake up and say, “I’m so thankful my teeth don’t hurt”? Or when was the last time you thought, “I’m so grateful my children survived chicken pox”? It rarely even crosses my mind to be happy my dog is housebroken. It’s not until I get a toothache, or my child gets sick, or the terrier throws up on the rug that I realize how pleased I should have been.
