Get Started With Home Remedies For Acne Now!
In this article, I'll share with you some of my favorite at home remedies for acne. You might need to head out to your supermarket or health food store for some of the ingredients, but I'm sure that you'll have everything you need already on hand to try at least one of these home remedies for acne.
One word of precaution before you get started. These are natural acne treatments we are using here, and they are supposed to be gentle and non-irritating. Some of them, such as the lemon juice and rose water remedy described below, may sting a bit at first. But if you find any of them to be truly irritating to your skin, stop using them.
Now that we've got that straight, let's move on to the home remedies themselves:
Peppermint
Peppermint contains menthol, which is both an anti-inflammatory and an analgesic, meaning that it will help with the pain brought on by acne as well as the inflammation.
You'll want to start off with some fresh peppermint leaves. If you can't find peppermint, you can also use spearmint, but peppermint is the best. Crush the leaves using a mortar and pestle, and apply both the juice and the crushed leaves to your face. Leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes and then wash it off.
You can repeat this as often as you like. I like to do this at night before going to bed or after a stressful day at work, as I find the scent of the peppermint to be calming and relaxing as well.
Oatmeal And Honey Mask
Oatmeal helps to cleanse your pores through exfoliating your skin and absorbing any oil. It also helps to ease inflammation. Honey acts as a skin toner.
Make one serving of oatmeal, which is usually 1/2 cup oatmeal mixed with 1 cup water, but check the package as some brands are different. While it's still hot, mix in about 1/4 cup of honey and stir well. Set it aside to cool, then apply to your face, taking care to avoid your eyes. Leave it on for about 10 to 20 minutes, but make sure to wash it off then and not to leave it on any longer as it will start to get difficult to take off.
Lemon Juice And Rose Water
Both lemon juice and rose water have antibacterial properties. Additionally, lemon juice is an astringent, and rose water acts as a skin toner. The rose water also acts to make the lemon juice less acidic before applying to the skin.
Mix equal parts of lemon juice and rose water and apply to your skin using a cotton ball. It may sting initially, but that shouldn't last longer than a minute or so. If you have any open sores on your skin, I wouldn't recommend this treatment as it would probably sting pretty badly.
Wash it off after about 15 minutes to half an hour,
One other precaution you should take with this treatment is that you don't want to expose your skin to direct sunlight after using lemon juice on your face, so it might be better to do it a night, especially in the summer when you're more likely to be out in the sun.
Homeopathic Remedies For Acne
These aren't usually included in the category of home remedies for acne because they aren't made from products you'll find lying around your house, but they are a great way to treat your acne naturally.
Homeopathy has always interested me, and the idea behind it is kind of wild, but it can be very powerful and effective, so I would recommend giving it a try. Basically, with homeopathy, a very small amount of a substance that would normally cause a problem is used to treat that very same problem. And when I say small, we're talking on a molecular level. Even critics of homeopathy say it can't hurt because the amount is so tiny. I personally have found homeopathic remedies to be very effective.
Here are some homeopathic remedies for acne that you can try:
Antimonium tartaricum
Calcarea carbonica
Hepar sulphuris calcareum
Pulsatilla
Silicea (also called Silica)
Sulphur
You will probably need to get these at a homeopathic pharmacy, but your local health food store may carry them. Speak to the homeopathic pharmacist to figure out which one would be best for your situation.
