Top 5 Greatest Baseball Players of All Time
77Baseball's Greats
Baseball is America's national past time and it has been that way since baseball was started in the late 1800's. As the sport has grown it has fostered some of the greatest athletes to ever come through sports and so with this list of the top 5 baseball players of all time I wish to let everyone know who I believe are, the best baseball players of all time.
1. Babe Ruth
-Everyone knew this guy was going to be #1 on the list because he is the #1 on every list. Not only was he one of, if not THE GREATEST HITTER of all time, but he also was an outstanding pitcher until he gained a little weight due to beer consumption. In my book he still is the career Homerun record holder because he never used steroids to gain an advantage since they weren't invented, haha. But the Babe was an all-american type guy and so was his ability in baseball.
2. Ty Cobb
-Though his history is not as well known as the Babe's Ty Cobb is defintely one of the greatest players of all time. He at one time held the record for most career stolen bases until that record was broken by Ricky Henderson, also an all-time great. But what Ty Cobb was famous for was his attitude on the diamond, not only was he a great hitter and runner, but he also had the most confident/cocky attitude a man could have. He was either hated or loved, but he did not care about his appearance, just about his ability on the diamond.
3. Mickey Mantle
-Mickey Mantle to this day is probably the greatest switch hitter of all time in the history of baseball. His hitting ability was legendary and still holds the career record for Homeruns by a switch hitter. Though his hitting was spectacular Mantle was also well known for his defensive ability and throwing arm. He hit homeruns, made diving catches, and threw people out at homeplate, and thats why he is one of the greatest.
4. Lou Gehrig
-Many people know the story of Lou Gehrig because of the famous disease named after him, but many people don't know just how great a ball player Lou was. He was one of the greatest power hitters of all time belting over 500 homerun in his shortened career. Lou was also had very good hands at first-base and rarely let a ball get past him. Many people believed Gehrig would have past 600 homerun if he had not contracted a disease to be named after him following his death. He is also famous for his speech he gave at Yankee Stadium where he called himself, "The Luckiest man on the face of the earth."
5. Bo Jackson
-Bo Jackson is widely recognized as the greatest athlete of all time, playing in both professional baseball and football leagues. Bo was known for his world-class speed and immense strength that made him like a running refrigerator in football, and Homerun hitting speedster in baseball. But Bo is most well known in baseball for an amazing feat he did during a game. With a runner on 3rd base a deep ball was hit down the rightfield line, Bo motored down the warning track until he actually ran up the fence, caught the ball in the corner, and then gunned the man who had tagged up from 3rd. A historic play for the one of the greatest of all time.
-These 5 players are from my own opinions formed from being a huge baseball fan my entire life, and If you want too, I would love to hear what you think about my list!
-God Bless
