Comfort Foods We Enjoy

While on the go or a force of habit, overweight and obese individuals testify that they have had too much of the following junk food. Some resort to these foods everyday or every meal ,sometimes a combination of these which makes it all the more dangerous.

So,what is junk food,anyway?

Foods which are deep fried, processed, tasty, but lacking in essential nutrients that our bodies require. They give you a feeling of satiety(fullness),but not for long. They do not contain fiber which is necessary in order that we do not suffer from constipation. They are not to be had on a daily basis if one has to have good health.Junk food is an addiction if not curbed early and this leads to being overweight and later obese which is the beginning of a whole lot of complications such as heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, liver malfunction and of course, cancer.

  1. Hot Dogs: Are high in nitrates, and can cause cancer if eaten regularly.
  2. Processed Meats and Bacon: Also high in sodium nitrates, and saturated fats.Causes high cholesterol and heart disease. The saturated fat in bacon also causes cancer.
  3. Doughnuts: Spell double trouble.Made with refined sugar, white flour and hydrogenated oils, and then fried at high temperatures. This is among the worst food you could eat on a regular basis to raise your risk of cancer.
  4. French Fries,Chips: Raise cancer risk as they are deep fried at high temperatures.Adding salt only heightens risk of hypertension as well.
  5. Crackers And Cookies: All these contain sugar and white flour.Even those brands that claim to have no transfats in them have a little,to give taste and longer shelf life.

So,should you never eat them?

In essense, anything in excess is bad for health. But,these foods all have to be processed to give us the right taste and retain their freshness for longer periods ,so nitrates are added which are detrimental to our health. An occasional doughnut or hotdog is not going to hurt you.It is the excess that you need to cut on.Similarly,if you can roast the potato strips instead of deep frying them, you will be doing yourself a favour.Similarly, you can trim the bacon of the fat if you must eat bacon.

I couldn't agree more. People talk about taking drugs, but forget that the biggest drug of all, is the food we eat.
