CALL OF DUTY -Modern Warfare 2

Call of Duty - Modern Warfare has just been released in November 2009.

Over the years the Call of Duty series has set the bar for immersive, action-packed, cinematic FPS gaming, and no matter what camp you're from there's no denying the franchise's influence on the industry. When Infinity Ward moved from the classic World War II setting and blazed new ground with Modern Warfare we saw the first obvious split within the world of Call of Duty. The series dropped its historic focus, created a new cast of characters, and began treading on new ground by taking the first-person shooter genre to new locales, and pushing the boundaries of what military games are willing to show. With Modern Warfare 2 the sheer amount of hype has been practically inescapable, with preorders alone setting it up as one of the biggest selling games of all time, the addition of even more multiplayer modes and features, and the game's new Special Operations mode has set Infinity Ward's lastest up as the game to beat this year.

Thankfully many of the glaring issues from last time around have been fixed. You won't find unlimited enemy spawns in areas, there's always a waypoint icon on-screen showing you where to go or who to follow, and the amount of in-game chatter from your team is simply astounding. It isn't often in games that you'll hear your squad call out specific areas on the map and have it mean anything. When your friend shouts, "Two tangos behind the yellow station wagon!" you'll actually see two enemies behind a yellow station wagon. It's a pretty engaging experience. You'll still have random issues with friendly AI, specifically with blocking your movement or deciding to walk in front of you mid-firefight, but for the most part it's a better experience than the first Modern Warfare.

Assassin's Creed 2-

Assissin's Creed 2 is a much better game than its predecessor. For one thing, it's actually a complete game, possessing a beginning, a middle, and an end, where the original Creed had a very interesting beginning and a satisfying end connected by 20 hours of interminable grey tedium. And while this sequel may not feel quite as fresh as the first game's handful of exceptional moments did, it serves up a more consistently enjoyable experience from start to finish.

Assassin's Creed 2 isn't without its flaws, but it benefits from a completely reworked structure that keeps the pace snappy and makes those minor issues fairly painless. Without a doubt, the most important improvement here is the way Ubisoft Montreal revamped the core mission design. The first Creed offered a sharply limited palette of objectives: Scout the area, undertake a set of investigative assignments, kill a guy, repeat. Assassin's Creed 2 offers more varied primary tasks, largely relegating the previous game's toilsome errands to the sidelines. You may have a friendly chat with Leonardo da Vinci one minute and kill a politician at a gala event the next, while events like races and extracurricular assassinations are almost entirely left to the player's discretion. One could conceivably play the game strictly for the story missions, which would result in a lean, cinematic, eight-hour adventure.

The great thing about Assassin's Creed 2 is that you don't have to play it that way. You don't have to play it any particular way, in fact. At any moment, the game is bursting with available objectives, both mandatory and optional, spread across half a dozen beautifully rendered city-states of Renaissance Italy. These range from the obvious (advancing the story) to the obligatory (hunting for cash and collectibles) to the exceptional (exploring a number of self-contained tombs crammed with Prince of Persia-style platforming challenges). Completing any of these tasks results in a real sense of accomplishment with tangible rewards, giving Assassin's Creed 2 an addicting, just-one-more-mission appeal

GOD OF WAR Collection

The God of War Collection is convenient, containing both God of War and God of War II on a single blu-ray disc for easy access to the two games. Both games have received a high-definition visual upgrade and higher frame rate resulting in smoother gameplay, which just about makes up for the many times you’ll hear Kratos sceam “ARES!” in the first game.

There is one bit of the God of War Collection that doesn’t come out so pretty. Cutscenes in the game using the in-game engine look terrible. There’s static all over the screen, the visuals jump back to the PS2 era and you just want it to end. This is understandable though as most of those cutscenes were movie files in the original game. They can’t upgrade the visuals of a movie file, now can they? Then there are the CG cutscenes, while experiencing a bit of static, they look nice and are much more appealing than the in-game bits.

There’s not much more to say about this re-release besides that the God of War Collectionis the proper way to play God of War and God of War II.

Uncharted 2-Among Thieves

Uncharted 2 Among Theives has just been released in Ocober 2009 with PS3 and is a sequel to Uncharted, Drake's new adventure revolves around an unsolved historical mystery surrounding Marco Polo and his doomed voyage home from China.

Among Thieves picks up roughly two years after the events of Drake's Fortune. Similar to the previous story, Nathan "Nate" Drake’s new adventure revolves around an unsolved historical mystery: the doomed voyage home of Marco Polo from China in 1292. After spending almost 20 years in the court of the Mongol Emperor Kubai Khan Marco Polo departed with 14 ships and over 600 passengers and crew – but when he arrived at his destination a year and a half later, only one ship remained, and only 18 of the passengers had survived. Although Marco Polo described almost every other aspect of his journeys in minute detail, he never revealed what happened to the ships that were lost.

The heist doesn't go as planned, but Drake does learn a secret. Marco Polo discovered something so amazing he didn't tell anyone about it for fear be being ridiculed. All he left was a clue. Drake now has to follow Marco Polo's trail from the jungles of Borneo to the Himalayas in search of a wish-fulfilling jewel called the Cintamani Stone. Both single and mutli player.
