Musicians And Bands Remain Independent And Be Successfull

As an active musician and person who has worked previously at several jobs within the music industry I have a major interest in the way that the music industry is currently changing and the adaptations and new career paths that are constantly being structured and tested. After a lot of research I have compiled a list of the best music websites out there that can offer unsigned musicians and bands ways of promoting and exposing their music that work. I have also been developing my own music website which I hope will provide a one-stop solution for anybody involved in the making of music. Here are some of the best websites and a brief description of each one.

PumpAudio.com

This website has swiftly become one of the largest independent music licensors to television, advertising and film than anyone else in the world. They offer musicians the chance to put their music up for licensing on a non-exclusive basis so that the artist can use their songs for other projects at the same time. Artists retain 100% ownership of their songs and receive 50% of the licensing fees.

GarageBand.com

This website offers independent musicians and bands a range of DIY resources such as selling downloads, selling cd's, radio promotion, sell your music as ringtones, sell t-shirts and merchandise, cd duplication, help with copyright and legal issues and song contests aswell as much much more. They also have a DIY resource section where promotional music businesses can get listed.

Taxi.com

Similar to PumpAudio, Taxi offers unsigned artists and bands the chance to get record deals, publishing deals and placements in films and tv shows. They appear to be affiliated to several well known commercial media companies such as Mtv, Warner Bros and MiraMax. The website contains a load of resources such as the downloadable Studio Buddy which contain formula's from platinum engineers.

ShowcaseYourMusic.com

This website describe themselves as the official a&r (artist & repertoire) resource system. Here you can upload your songs and videos and showcase them to the public. The website also works as a searchable database of unsigned acts providing a reliable tool for a&r executives.

MusicTank.co.uk

This website is a business development network for the UK music industry and contains an endless amount of information on both commercial and independent operations within the music industry. The site basically contains everything from resources and tools to information and guidance on every aspect of the music industry including copyright, legal issues, finance and marketing.

SellABand.com

So far this website has raised $50,000 finance for 13 different unsigned artists or bands. Artists are issued with 5,000 parts which they then have to get dedicated fans to invest in. Fans then earn a free limited edition copy of the album and can open their own shop on SellABand where they can sell copies of the artists album and make a bit of profit.
