PC fighting games are far and few between. Fighting genre is almost exclusively for the consoles though they are fun on the console or computer. The benefits of playing any game on the computer is there are no monthly fees for a lot of games. That coupled with the fact that there are free games on the computer and very few elsewhere. A completely free computer fighter is what lot of people are looking for. There have been fighters in the past that have closed their servers down and aren't operational anymore which I find to be very sad. They were all amazingly fun, testing nothing but pure skill against another player. A couple of these games had a tag team function too, so me and my buddy would do tag team matches. This is crazy fun to do and hope everyone can find a good fighter that they can play for a long time!

Types Of Fighters

There are plenty of different types of fighters out there, some are solo play only, cartoony, fantasy, realistic styles of games. There aren't too many multiplayer fighters out there so you may have to bite the bullet on a particular type of game that you want to play. If its multiplayer and fair for everyone such as no pay items, there isn't much more you can ask for. It is hard to find the perfect PC fighting games, especially ones that are free but you may find something that catches your interest below.

X-Men vs. Street Fighter Online

When it comes to a PC fighting game, this is a fantastic game. You play the normal X-Men vs. Street Fighter with other people around the world. There are unlock able characters which require a certain number of wins to attain. There are also persistent stat tracking, this game has pretty much everything that you are looking for! The fighting in this game is amazing which most of you already know from playing the original back when it was released and in arcades. This game brings it right on your computer and gives you the chance to fight anyone anytime. The community is great and supportive. The game is entirely fan based, so there is a donation request on their home page. Donating unlocks a few cool looking special moves but nothing ground breaking so there really isn't much of an advantage to this. Though people will notice that you helped to keep the game available for everyone and you get recognized for that.This game also has the ability to play straight from your browser! It takes a couple minutes to load all the way but it plays just like you downloaded it!

SplashFighters

Very fun MMO type of fighter! This game is a 3D top down at a slight angle fighter. This game is complete with missions to complete fighting other players and much much more! I think one of the best things about this game is how easy it is to setup a controller for this game and how much more it increases your play experience. Although it isn't as intense as other fighting games, its still very fun as there is so much to do. This game is published by ijji so they have decent servers to handle the amount of players they have. Lag isn't wanted in any fast paced game and ijji does a good job handling their players.

One of the selling factors for me was creating my own character. Not only is it a very fun game to play, but you can create your own custom character. There are quite a few options to consider when creating your character so everyone should be satisfied with their selection.

There is of course with all ijji games, a cash shop. The cash shop will give players a decent advantages in a lot of situations, though people seem to not pay for anything but cosmetic upgrades once in a great while. This can get annoying though it isn't game breaking the advantage that they get so don't worry about it too much.

Mini Fighter

This game looks very promising. I was playing through the single player, offline demo version of the game. I gotta admit I am very impressed, it takes some getting used to cause the game feels a lot different than other fighters. Though it will be awesome when the english version is released and online play is available. There are a couple of game modes including one vs. one fights, Dungeons, and some training events. Your character levels up as you fight your way vs other players and monsters in the dungeon. The downside of the leveling process is that from what I can tell this is little to no character customization and only preset characters that you can choose. Of course this may change, or I may be wrong but I don't think so. With a lack of customization I think this may turn into chaos but who knows? I don't know if there will be an even spread of different characters, who can say for sure until its out.

Overall the fighting as I said takes some getting used to. You can chain together combos and juggle your opponent though it is frustrating when you fail to hit your opponent for some unknown reason when you think you should have. They then get up and are invulnerable for like a second or two and they proceed to get you into a combo. Like I said though I got used to it a little bit that when you fail to juggle sprint back and hold block until you can strike again, this seemed to help me do a lot better.

This is going to be a great game I think if they actually put forth an effort into the creation of this game. I would hate to see this game suffer the same fate of a lot of different Korean games with lack of good content and littered with bugs. Oh and lets not forget the amazingly overpowered cash shop items that make it impossible to enjoy it in all reality for free.

By the way, this game works amazing with a controller. Look below for information on how to set one up for any game you want!

Grand Chase

This is not exactly a fighter I wouldn't say but it fits enough to be in here. This is more of an action MMORPG in my opinion though the PvP in this game makes it seem almost like a fighter in itself. I had an amazing time with this game, even with all the flaws and weird stuff I saw in it. It is a Korean game so there is grinding for levels and weird looking characters. Oh and don't forget the screen cluttering amount of stuff you can wear on your character at once (Look at some level 30+ characters you will know what I mean.) But that's not enough to keep me away, I started off doing some practice matches vs the computer to get the feel for the game then went into some dungeons where you join in groups with fellow players to clear out entire forests, towers, castles ETC. Then fight the boss at the end while collecting XP, rare items, crafting items ETC. I thought that this was a nice touch and change of pace to work with some people and not always competing, was a nice change up. Though after I was comfortable with the controls I went to fight some other people and that I felt was a blast. Although they were levels 30+ I think I put up a good fight and got some items and XP from it so it was still worth my time. So all in all this is a worthwhile game to check out. Though if you can't play often to get some levels you might want to look into another game as this is pretty time consuming to get very far and be able to compete effectively.

Rumble Fighter

Rumble Fighter looks very similar to Grand Chase, though there are some things that are different. One of the things that make it different is that it actually looks more like a fighting game rather than a fantasy game. This game features dungeon combat as well as PvP elements. There is up to 8 players doing battle at one time in either team based or free for all combat. This game has a little more than just simple punch and block, there are pretty sophisticated combos that you can pull off, though there are simple combo hits but you won't get far unless you try to learn some of the best to perform in different situations. You also has the ability to transform into different creatures giving you different abilities when you transform. This adds to the depth of the game play and helps you turn the tides of battle when things are not looking so good. This game is well worth looking into although it isn't perfect it combines RPG elements with fighting elements yet again but this game is a little more interesting looking than SplashFighters though it reminds me of it a lot.

KwonHo

KwonHo was originally released with Ijji, they had over 600 players for this create a fighter fighting game. They closed the game shortly after because they didn't have enough players to justify keeping it running supposedly. This was a great game it reminds me of Tekken in many ways. You start by creating your very own fighter and customize his look from a very nice amount of customization then you choose your fighting style. After you create your character you go through some tutorials to teach you how to play and then you are sent straight online to fight other people! This game is pretty much just like Tekken in many ways. First to two wins takes the round, one vs one with a tag team option, different fighting style and moves for every character no character is exactly the same as another, and the ranking system are what makes it very unique to anything online. The problem is that this game is no longer online and I could not find any servers that host this game or how to play it since Ijji closed it down. IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION on how you can play this game still please post a comment down below to help us all play this amazing game.

Using A Controller

Lets face it,  PC fighting games require fast reflexes and comfortable controls help that. That's why i prefer to use a controller when playing my fighting games. There are two ways as I see it to play with a controller on your PC. You can buy the controller from the store and that works pretty much right out of the box and some have pre-configured key bindings which will make the amount of buttons you have to change a lot less. Then there is using a Xbox360 or PS3 controller lying around. If you have a PS3 Controller laying around you are in luck! You can play on your computer with it right now if you wanted to. If you have a 360 controller that isn't wired, you are kind of out of luck. A plug and play kit doesn't count as a wire sadly as it doesn't send data through the cable, just charges it through the cable. There is a piece that you will need so your computer can pickup the wireless signal that your 360 controller emits and then you can sync your computer and controller and you can buy it here.

So if you have a PS3 controller you will need a little download that can be found here. Simply install the file libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1, then plug in your controller hit the PS button. After that you need to run the file ps3sixaxis_en. Once you do this you should see your PS3 controller on the game controllers list located in the control panel. Some people this just doesn't work for them and its unknown why. If that's the case for you just find another driver, there are plenty all of which are different. ALSO NOTE that this isn't permanent they aren't official drivers and aren't loaded every time your computer starts up. I'm looking into a way to get your computer to load them up every time but so far came up with nothing. So you got to run this file every time you restart your computer!

For the Xbox 360 Controller you simply plug it in and the drivers will automatically install.

Then when you have your controller plugged in and recognized by the computer your next step is key mapping. There are a few key mapping software that are free, I have used Xpadder. This is a pretty self explanatory piece of software, map the buttons with the keys that you want they to correspond with. Turn on your game and enjoy playing with your controller! I prefer to use JoyToKey However for it works with 100% of the games I have tried it with. Although when using JoyToKey you get more control over what buttons do what you give up some of the more advanced features, that's fine with me though.

When using JoyToKey you may notice that all it says is Button 1, Button 2 ETC. This is because that is how your computer recognizes them. So to configure them we have to find out what button numbers are what. This is done by going to Control Panel, then Game Controllers. Then we choose the joystick we are configuring for and then click Properties. When in the properties menu you will see numbers in circles that go red when you press a button. You guessed it thats the button number that it was talking about in JoyToKey. So simply choose the button number that you what to change the value of then press the button on the keyboard that you want it to become and that's all!

You will  be very satisfied with your PC fighting game once you get it all hooked up because you will react in battle a lot quicker than someone with a keyboard and will have an advantage over everyone else.

Dangazzm, so these are the top PC fighting games. I confess! I've never tried playing any of these. LOL I think if I were to choose, I'd pick the first one you mentioned above X-men vs Street Fighter. :)

@Valerie

I wish we both could play it! Sadly it is still down from what I read (Just double checked) ijji took the servers down and noone else hosts it. But if anyone mentions how we can play it, it will take its place at the top of the list because I felt it was a great game that played similar to Tekken/Street Fighters kind of game. It is too bad there aint many games like this for PC :(

@ripplemaker

Wow thank you so much! I think you should try X-men vs. Street Fighter its just like the arcade game! Here's to winning.
