74What is the top place to buy items to sell on eBay? That's a great question, because if you want to be a successful seller on eBay, you'll have to have a reliable product source.
Let's back up for one moment so you can understand what we're talking about.
Selling on eBay is great if you have extra stuff around the house, or you received Christmas presents you don't like, or you want to get rid of clothes your kids have outgrown. Think of this as using eBay as an online garage sale. However just as you won't make a ton of money having a garage sale, you won't make a ton of money selling your stuff on eBay either.
The really successful eBay sellers act just like real retail stores. Or maybe they act like they're a salesperson for a company like Avon or Mary Kay. They have a product supplier (known as a wholesaler) that supplies them products at a steep discount (known as wholesale pricing), and then they resell those products to customers at a markup.
This is exactly what every retail store in the nation does. WalMart and Target do not make their own products, they purchase the products from wholesalers, and then market and resell the products to customers for a higher price than they paid the wholesaler for it.
Let's say Target buys 1,000 hair dryers from a wholesaler for $10 each. So they just paid $10,000 total for those hair dryers. Then they resell the hair dryers in their stores for $15 each. When all the hair dryers have been sold, they made a $5,000 profit. That's $15,000 they got from the customers, minus the $10,000 they paid the wholesaler.
Now that's a really simple example, but that's the same method really successful eBay PowerSellers use to make money.
The problem is, as a single person trying to sell on eBay, you don't have the ability to buy products from wholesalers for as much of a discount as Target can. That's because wholesalers will give even better pricing if you buy a lot of products. Obviously we're not ever going to compete with the Targets or WalMarts of the world!
So how can we get good quality, inexpensive products from wholesalers at wholesale prices. Well we're going to have to find somewhere to buy these products at the discount prices, so we can sell them on eBay and make a profit.
Which leads us back to the original question: what is the top place to buy items to sell on eBay?
I've looked all over the Internet, and after all of my research, the best place I have found is Doba. They offer a service to online merchants--including eBay sellers--where they have negotiated with wholesalers to offer wholesale pricing for over a million products.
Here's how it works: You simply login to your account with Doba, find a product you want to sell, and list it as an auction over at eBay. When someone wins your auction and pays you, then you go back and login to Doba and buy the product. Only instead of shipping the product to you, you enter in the shipping address of your customer, and Doba will send it to them on your behalf.
Let's do the math here... you find a widget on Doba that you want to sell on eBay. Doba charges you $20 for that widget, but you notice other people selling the same widget on eBay for $35. So you go ahead and list your widget on eBay for $35 also. Someone wins the auction and pays you the $35 dollars. You go back to Doba, buy the widget for $20 and tell them to ship it to your customer's address. After it's all said and done, you just made $15 ($35 from auction minus $20 for the widget). By the way, don't worry about shipping, because you charge the customer for shipping through eBay.
Now obviously it's more complicated than that, with eBay listing and selling fees, etc. I just wanted to give a simple example to show the power of drop shipping, and how you can use services like Doba to make money selling on eBay.
There are other services out there like Doba that are good, but I personally think Doba is the best, especially for new eBay sellers. They do charge a monthly fee to be a member (kinda like joining Sam's Club or Costco), but you can cancel at any time.
When I first found Doba, I took advantage of their 7-day free trial, so I recommend you do that too. That way you know for sure if you like Doba or not before having to pay the monthly fee. However I guess in my opinion, Doba is the top place to buy products to sell on eBay, and well worth the monthly price.

I didn't have a good experience with Doba, but I was just getting started at the time. Maybe it would be worth taking a look at them again.
