The first step to getting the right lawyer is to do a little research among different New city lawyers. This in itself can be a tough task, especially if you don’t know what to expect from your lawyer. It’s also important to note that many attorneys may try and put up a good front in order to get your business. The best way to find a good lawyer is to know what kind of questions to ask them. If you can get clear, up front answers to the following questions, chances are that you are dealing with good New city lawyers.

Are You Experienced?

This is possibly one of the most important questions to ask your attorney. It is important to know how many years these New city lawyers have been practicing as well as their qualifications. It’s also a good idea to ask about their success rate in cases fought in court. If the attorney seems to be well-experienced in their field, you then need to find out if they have experience working on cases like yours. This is especially important if your case has some unique aspects to it that may require specialized experience.

Next, you need to ask these lawyers what the outcome of the case will be; this doesn’t mean a win or lose answer. In the case of either happening, you need to know what effect it will have on you. You also need to ask about any alternatives that may be available to resolving the case; in some situations, there may be ways to effectively resolve things without having to go to court.

The Money Factor

An important question you need to ask all lawyers is regarding their fee structure. You should never leave this till the last minute, since you could end up paying bills that you never expected. Ask them what kind of fee structure they follow; if they bill you on an hourly rate; ask them how long they expect the case to extend and how often they will be sending you bills. It’s also important to be clear about what your New city lawyers consider as ‘costs’. These are fees that all clients will have to pay, regardless of the fee structure. While this usually includes things like fees for filing papers, it may also include fees for long distance calls, faxes and photocopying. It’s always a good idea to ask for a general figure beforehand and when you do commit to a lawyer, make sure the fee structure is clearly laid out in the contract. Don’t forget to ask about who else will be handling your case and whether they will be billed for work as well.

It’s also a good idea to ask your lawyer about how they plan to approach the case and what you can reasonably expect. Also ask to be kept abreast of any progress that is made in your case. Avoid working with any New city lawyers who refuse to answer these questions or who provide answers that you are not happy with. With a little groundwork, you’re sure to find the right lawyer for you.
