Enjoy Your Christmas Breaks At Home
Christmas break is the peak time of year for family getaways but not everyone can or wants to go away at Christmas time. Certainly this year with college expenses and the rising economy, I will be spending my holidays at home roasting chestnuts on an open fire.

Hey Dottie! Great hub with great ideas. We did Christmas at Disney last year with my whole extended family. This year, we're going to my sister's place in Wilmington, NC. We all rotate destinations and usually have everyone at each other's homes each year. Maybe sometime, New Orleans. Love that city!
Would love to visit Smokey Mountains, they look awesome.
Thank you Bob and enjoy the season! I'm sure you are enjoying the fall foliage season right now like I am. It is sooo beautiful, isn't it!
Hi there NYLady! Ahhh...your Christmas's sound wonderful. I saw Wilmington and thought you might be close by. It is the next town from me and the town where I grew up...that's in MA not NC! I keep looking at that Tennessee Smoky Mountain and can say "take me there, and leave me"! That's my HEAVEN! I've been to Disney and Dollywood but not at Christmas. Thanks NYLady for your comments and for traveling through.
Hi Cgull8M...I love the Smokies and didn't know that Tennessee had foliage...thought it was too warm...Learn something new everyday! Thanks for coming by!
Hi Dottie, I love your new autumy avatar. :) I will be spending Christmas here at home (which I have been doing all my life LOL) But if plans will push through, the family might go somewhere this new year. Hmmmm, your hub made me think what if someday we could go visit you and Shirley too... But the places you mentioned looked very inviting! Great hub!
Hi Ripplemaker....You like my new avatar? LOL....I got rippled, thats what inspired the new look. Don't remember? Here, I'll show you!
http://ripplemakers.blogspot.com/search/label/What
I left you a new comment over there!
Hahaha Dottie, I love your smile amidst the autumn leaves. I just read your comment and I agree, it all begins with a thought! :) LOL By the way, I know I have told you this already but I will tell it again anyway, I loved your answer! :)
Hahaha...we were both leaving comments to each other at the same time. I want to know what you and Daisy are doing to me over there? and thank you! lol
Hi Dottie,
Christmas is something everyone in each and every part of the world looks forward to. Celebrations begin from mid November itself. The first signs are noticed when shopping malls take on a new look, gearing up for the season.
Switching on the radio, you are more likely to hear songs like "Santa Bring My Baby Back To Me," "Blue Christmas," etc. Over the past few years, the track recorded by cliff Richards "Christmas Time, Mistletoe And Wine," has been extremely popular.
The sheer excitement generated by these events makes it worth waiting for!
Cheers!
Hi quicksand,
I went into a store yesterday to pick up some Halloween items and the Halloween area was replaced already with Christmas trees. Which reminds me that I didn't get a chance to buy a tree last year (long story) but ended up buying an artificial one and it is going up the day after Thanksgiving to make up for lost time last year!
I am also getting excited listening to all this Christmas music that is being generated from the Christmas hubmob hubs including this one. Thank you so much for coming by and commenting.
Hi Dottie,
Disneyworld sounds fun around Christmas. As a SoCal girl I always liked Disneyland during Christmas time.
Hi SweetiePie,
I was in SoCal (I like that word) long time ago to visit cousins and they took us to Disneyland. We had such fun that day. I haven't actually been to either at Christmas not even the one in FL where I've spent more time there especially because my parents live in SoFL (lol....love using the new words even if I have to do so in a different state). Thanks for comments and the visit.
These places look good enough to visit at anytime, although right now would be great as i cannot wait until christmas for a hoiday! but i guess ill have to!
ps..I like your new profile pic:) Its as pretty as a picture!:)
Fantastic Hub Dottie. I also Love your New Avatar. You look so Preety and Beautiful.
Very nice Hub Dottie! Great alternative from all of the commercialism :)
Thank you compu-smart, guidebaba and DarleneMarie for your kind words and for stopping by. I appreciate you all.
Dottie,
I love the background colors in your profile picture. Of course the pretty lady with the pretty smile is certainly attractive too. Don’t tell Barbie I said that:)
Well, I know now where my granddaughters would want to go – Walt Disney World. I’ll make sure I recommend that to mom and dad. I will choose The Smoky Mountains myself and not Dolly Wood, but you already knew that. But since we’ve already been there more times that our budget can take so Barbie could write her hub pages for the Smokies, I believe we’ll just be roasting chestnuts by an open fire. By the way the colors should be peak in the Smoky Mountains now.
Thank you so much for this beautiful hub. ~ eddie
You are making me blush Eddie. Don't worry, I will be the secret keeper! I saw Barbie's hubs on the smokies. She was able to write it because her sweet husband took her there on her birthday. That was such a nice story. I really enjoyed it. Thanks so much Eddie for stopping by today. I'll have to stop by and say hellow to Barbie if you don't still have her working out in the garden! Take care.
great hub, thanks Dottie! I might try one of these places!
Very good ideas, all the places look really nice. I am sure the children would love a Disney visit for Christmas and my grandma would go for a Vegas splash... Me? I like to take Christmas breaks just before or after Christmas, I like to spend Christmas at home warming up by the fire and receiving friends.
Enjoy your Christmas :)
Hi t.keeley...I hope you enjoy yourself should you decide to try one out! Thanks for coming by.
Hi Princessa...I'm with you on that one and Christmas at home warming up by the fire with good friends. Such a warm and cozy thought. Thanks for your visit and have an enjoyable Christmas too!
When I was 20, my father didn't want to travel back the 8 hours to the family Christmas. Instead, he asked me where I wanted to go. I announced St. Augustine, Florida because I had never been to the first European settlement. As a bonus, he took me to Disney World. I had so much fun, though I would never go on Christmas Day again to Disney. The shortest line was a 3 hour wait.
Great article.
Hi RGraf....sounds like St. Augustine was alot more relaxing for you than Disney World. I know Disney World gets over crowded during the February and April vacations but never knew anyone who went at Christmas time. That is until now. Thanks for that information. I love to go to Florida in October and November, the best months of the year to go to FL IMO.
Hi dottie, I am finally able to link your hub in my ripplemaker blog. :) Thanks for this useful information. Now how I wish I could go to these places too. LOL maybe someday. By the way, if you have time for a visit to my blog, kindly check if the link works. Sometimes it does in mine and sometimes it doesn't. weird. :) Thanks so much.
I'm on my way ripplemaker and I just came from your new healing hub, part 3 and loving abundance website. Left you a comment in both. We must have just crossed each other. See you about my friend!
LOL great to see you around up and about. :) LOL
I can hear you laughing, LOL! :)
The places are really interesting... For addtional information: http://www.travelguidesdirectory.com/
Thanks bbjane for coming by and commenting.
Ah, Dottie. Now I want to go away. Not to the theme parks - my kids and grandson are grown and I hate crowds, although before I die I AM going to Vegas. It's not so far from my beloved travel destination of Arizona, so one of these times maybe I can combine them. It's pretty hard to beat free limo service to an AZ casino, though.
Great hub, Dottie!
I think a nice vacation anywhere Shirley to beat our hubpage addictions sounds terrific but to a casino, well that could just be the start of another addiction. So the question, is there such thing to having fun without addictions? Everyone needs that addrenaline pumping through the veins now and again for pure heavenly pleasure. Ah, the sound of it gets me high! Let's go to Vegas! Thanks Shirley for coming by.
Yes, let's go to Vegas! Oh wait, I need a sugardaddy to pay for it first - know any?
Hey we masterminded our way over the ocean and through the air to London free of charge. A trip to Vegas will be a breeze. Is it my turn to sell? LOL
i love vegas too
Lgali...you can come to Vegas too! :)
sure i will just needs to win a lottery
Actually, Dottie, I would like to keep my remaining organs, so if you wouldn't mind, that would be great.
Lgali...I will wish upon a star for your win in the lottery
Shirley...fair is fair...you gave last time. I have all my organs. They are in tip top shape and could get fair market value for any one of them. Any idea which organ is worth the most? I'll start there on pricing!
thanks for your wish Iwill buy my ist lottery today
LOL Lgali...let me know if you win!
I will let u know..
Well, I know that livers were fetching top dollar last year, not sure what the market's like this time around. We'll have to research it.
Shirley...I'll see what I can find out too. I just had liver tested and results are normal. HIP HIP HOORAY. We're on our way! It's Vegas or Bust!
Thx Lgali...I'll be waiting for very gooooood news!
http://www.icwt.us/index.php/2008/01/20/how-to-sel
This is the link that you sent me when I was looking to sell my liver and teeth. I believe they have a leasing option - sweet, best of both worlds.
Hi Dottie,
Great ideas! Christmas is my favorite time of year, but I've always stayed home for the holiday with my family. If I ever do any travelling though these would be some good places to consider. Vegas for Christmas? I would TOTALLY be there. Nice hub!
Dottie: The photos are so tempting- makes one want to hop on a plane and travel but this year I am staying home and roasting marshmellows with my sweetie. I prefer to save the money and travel when its less expensive.
Fun hub!
Thanks for that link Shirley. Sorry it took sooo long but you know how it goes with playing telephone tag with the liver donors! I have good news: Did you know that 3/4 of your liver can be cut away only to regenerate to its original size in a few weeks. Here is the good news Shirley,; I can get up to $150,000 for a slice of my liver with only 1% of liver operations going south. My appointment is being scheduled in now! We'll soon be on our way :)
Thanks Waksachi and violetsun for coming by and commenting. It looks like staying home is the winner this year but have to agree that VEGAS at Christmas sounds great. Shirley and I are starting with plans if you care to join us; the more the merrier. Thanks ladies.
Yes, Dottie, the more the merrier....do they have any organs to sell?
Hey!! $150,000 per slice?? That's great! We can take a bunch of trips. We can take a third world country.
Dottie is not taking comments right now....she has gone to HEAVEN...will be back later to take your call.
No beep? How can I leave a message? I'll have to call back later, I guess.
Leave a message at the sound of the beep. If there is no beep then you can ring the bell.
I'm gonna knock on your door, ring on your bell, tap on your window too
If you don't come out tonight when the moon is so bright, I'm gonna knock and ring and tap until you do
Actually, that's not true, I'm going to bed now. You missed your chance, hanging out Stu. Hmph!
Night Shirley....Night Stu!
Was just thinking of where to go during this xmas. Thanks for the great information.
uganda-safari...hope you find some place enjoyable to visit this Christmas. Thanks for dropping by.
Visiting local areas during the Christmas season is always a great option for the financially strapped traveler. Thanks for all the lovely picturesa and tips. I have never been much of a Las Vegas fan because the person I went with was kind of a jerk, so it might be fun to go up there around Christmas. I love light displays and just looking at these.
That's what I ought to do SweetiePie is visit my local areas since I am the financially strapped traveler this year, lol. I have only been to Vegas once and that was for business. Besides hotel casinos didn't get to see much else. I'll have to put it on my Wish List when not on business or financially strapped. Nice see you. :)
The places and you've mentioned are great! I would love to go there sometimes if time and budget would permit me. specially in Las Vegas. Loved the pictures. Have an awesome new year!
Thanks for stopping by mhei. Glad you liked pics and hope you can visit vegas someday soon. Hope you have an awesome new year too! Take Care! :)
I'm already planning how we will spend Christmas this year, esp with our 5 year old granddughter, and Disney seems perfect. Thanks for the ideas and suggestions.
You're welcome IslandVoice. Disney is the perfect place to take a 5 year old on vacation especially a well thought out one as you are already planning. Your granddaughter will feel like she's in paradise. Thanks for coming by.
Very well written hub .....

Great Hub! Congratulations.
My favorite spots are in New Orleans!

Good alternatives but we will be at home enjoying the season.
