Top Wii Games

Why Wii?

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past 2 years, you have probably heard of the Wii gaming console from Nintendo... Not only does this gaming system offer up some stunningly designed games, but it allows you to experience these games on a whole new level by inviting you to get up off your keister and get into the game as opposed to just playing it...

How is this accomplished you ask?

That's the beauty... Along with a sleek space saving console design, Nintendo opted to create a motion-sensitive controller device for the Wii called the "Wii-mote" that is able to detect it's own exact location and orientation in space. So, as you move your Wii-mote, your character on the screen responds to the precise movements that your Wii-mote has made.

This kind of precision controlability has lead to vast improvements in the games created- new game ideas are going above and beyond anything we have ever experienced and old games are being retooled and redistributed in Wii brilliance to offer new dimension to an old classic.

So, which games are the best? In this Hub I'll share a few of my personal favorites as well as some up and coming options that I think will top the charts. :)

Active Life Outdoor Challenge!

Active Life Outdoor Challenge is not only fun for the whole family, but is an incredible workout... Much like Wii Fit, Outdoor Challenge gets you off the couch and in a whole new world of gameplay featuring multiple levels for each activity which keeps you engages and boredom free.

Rather than the Wii Fit Board (which can still be hard to find), Outdoor Challenge is played on a specially designed mat that comes bundled with the game.

For those not able to secure a Wii Fit, this is a great alternative!

In my opinion, the top Action/Adventure Wii game is Super Mario Galaxy. Granted, I have small children in the house, so I don't stock our Wii Game library with all those Hory-Gory games like Resident Evil 4, which has incredible reviews on the internet, but I think Super Mario Galaxy offers the perfect balance of ease of use for new gamers, incredible 3-D, gravity and phyiscs defying graphics and the occassional progress-stopping puzzle to decipher before you are allowed to move on further.

Not only that, but it's familiar territory.... The Mario Brothers characters have been gracing game boxes since 1985 and have never failed to amuse us. We keep wanting more...

As for upcoming games in this category, I think that both Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures (due to release June 3, 2008) and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (due to release on September 16, 2008) will make the cut for Top Action/Adventure Wii Games.

At this point, I think that Wii Sports, which conveniently comes with the Wii Gaming system, is the best sports game on the market... Though, that position may be debunked over the next few days with the release of Wii Fit in the United States.

Yes, there are some other notable Sports games out there (Deca Sports, Winter Sports The Ultimate Challenge and even single sport specific games such as Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08) but the controlability of the Wii-mote with these newer sports games seems to be lacking. You'll find that either your Wii-mote responds too quickly or too slowly, ultimately frustrating the heck out of you...

I have to admit, I am anxious to take Wii Fit for a spin. With all the press it's been getting and the great video trailers showing the scope of it's usability, it's hard not to get caught up in the excitement! Let's just hope it lives up to the hype.

Boom Blox!!! Need I say more?

Honestly, for his first attempt at a Video Game, kudos go to Steven Spielberg!

It combines real life physics-based puzzle scenarios with a fun and quirky community of characters centered around the basic shape of the block.

In this game players can look forward to a fast-paced gameplay blending the simplicity of the wildly popular block game Jenga and the crazy complexity of a Rube Goldberg machine--devices that although performing very simple tasks are designed to do it by the most complicated means possible.

Boom Blox features over three hundred levels, 3 types of gameplay (single player, co-op, and versus) and an easy-to-use in-game editor that allows players to build thier own puzzle worlds. The fun never ends as you throw baseballs, blast lasers, save wacky animal characters, explore cool worlds and more!

It's a great game for the whole family!
