Top 10 Current Athletes That Would Break Fans' Hearts if They Used Steroids
61
Honorable Mention
An honorable mention must be made to Sidney Crosby. If Wayne Gretzky were still playing, he'd be up there. "The Kid" is not quite there yet. Maybe one day.
10. Tiger Woods
Even though golf is really a sport you relate to streoids, it's not out of the question. There are performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) that golfers could use. Not only could they increase power, but there are also drugs out there to increase concentration, a huge part of golf.
9. Roger Federer
Again, tennis is not usually associated with steroids, but there are drugs to enhance performance. Federer recently broke the record for Grand Slams, giving him the most all time at 15. Other than Rafael Nadal and maybe Andy Roddick at this year's Wimbledon, nobody has been able to touch him.
8. Usain Bolt
At the 2008 Olympics in China, Bolt broke both the world and Olympic records in the 100m dash, 200m dash, and was part of the team that broke the record in the 4x100m relay. He became the first man to set a record in all three events in a single Olympics. With former champions like Justing Gatlin and Marion Jones shot down by positive steroid tests, Bolt has become the face of sprinting.
7. Kobe Bryant
The reason Kobe isn't higher is simply because not all the fans like him. Setting that aside, he is one of the best players in NBA history. Not to mention he has 4 Championship rings.
6. Derek Jeter
A few days ago, this would have been Derek Jeter and David Ortiz, depeding on if you favored the Red Sox or Yankees. Recently, however, David Ortiz has been eliminated from the list because he tested positive for PEDs in 2003. Boston fans' hearts were broken.
5. Peyton Manning
Although baseball is mostly known for its steroid allegations, many players either have used or currently use some type of PED. Peyton Manning is number 5 instead of some other quaterback because he has the numbers. Tom Brady has multiple championships and broke Manning's single season TD record, but his numbers aren't up there as consistently. Manning is usually a shoe-in to put up big numbers. Plus, how could you now love the multiple commercials he does?
4. Lebron James
The biggest name in the NBA. One of the few, other than Kobe, where people refer to them by their first name, not last. If Lebron used steroids, the NBA would have to find a new face
3. Albert Pujols
Everyone thought A-Rod could become the face of the MLB, until the report came out that he tested positive while with the Texas Rangers. Enter Albert Pujols. This season his stats have been through the roof. He's the first player with an actual chance at the triple crown in years. If Pujols tests positive for any type of PED, baseball fans just might lose hope on finding a legitimate home run hitting machine.
2. Lance Armstrong
Although he didn't win the Tour de France this year in his return, Lance's career more than makes up for it. Not only did he come back after battling testicular cancer, he still won. Lance won the tour a record 7 straight years (99-05). He's won tons of awards, including the ESPY for Best Male Athlete in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006. There have been a couple of allegations that Armstrong has use PEDs, but nothing has been proven.
1. Michael Phelps
A big stink was made when a photo came out with Phelps smoking marijuana. He's the USA's golden boy. Not only one of the greatest swimmers of all time, but Olympians in general. He has won a record 14 career Olympic gold medals. Up until last week, he had not lost a major individual race in four years. Phelps has also broken over 30 world records in swimming. At the age of 24, he has already won World Swimmer of the Year 5 times and American Swimmer of the Year 7 times.

More people know Jeter because he's been around longer. At this point in time, Pujols is the face of Major League Baseball. He's the biggest name in baseball. His predecessors, Bonds and A-Rod, have both tested positive. If Pujols is juicing, fans may lose hope.
Great article. Keep up the good work.

Personally I think Jeter and Pujols should be switched. Yes Pujols is a home run hitter and could get the triple crown. However Jeter is a much bigger name in baseball with 4 world series rings. If you go down the street and ask people who is the bigger star, im sure Jeter would be the answer.
