It's estimated that 97% of people fail in network marketing. Now, that shouldn't be too surprising as 95% of regular entrepreneurs fail too. So any business venture is statistically difficult.

Yet there are also a LOT of people doing well. And if somebody can do it, anybody can do it. This hub explores the top reasons people fail and how to over come them.

1. Lack of money

A lot of people never put the "marketing" in network marketing. They never grow beyond their friends and family as prospects. And sadly, very few people have true business builders in their family circle anyway, so it's not a very good way to build a business

A network marketing business needs to be marketed. It doesn't require a huge budget, but some form of marketing to generate prospects is essential for long term success.

2. Lack of Activity

Let's face it, given the choice between working and watching T.V. most people will choose the T.V. Yet there's a saying in Network Marketing:

"If you want your team to go into momentum, YOU have to go into momentum."

Somehow you have to find the personal gumption to get after it. Usually this requires getting a business partner that you are accountable to, or a supportive spouse, or a team that has regular calls.

Network Marketing is a team sport, get involved with the team if you want help over coming a lack of motivation or laziness.

3. Lack of People to Talk To

This one goes hand in hand with point number 1. You have to have people to show your business to, or you're dead in the water.

One effective method I have used is a "Funded Proposal." You can see an example at:

This is a site that offers something network marketers want. I offer them something for free in exchange for their name and e-mail address. Once I have that, I have a chance to communicate with them and see if they're open to looking at my business.

4. Lack of Skills and Knowledge

My friend Pat Berry talks about becoming a "Skillionaire." I really like that phrase, because success really does come from developing skills. Nobody else will build your business for you, you have to do it. One way to develop good business and people skills is through Jim Rohn's personal development habits:

1. Read at least 10 pages a day in a personal development book.

2. Listen for at least 20 minutes a day to a good audio.

3. Attend a live seminar at least quarterly.

These are three habits that are easy to do, don't take much time, but can make a major difference in your life in a surprisingly short time!

So those are the top 4 reasons why people fail, and what to do about it. I hope these thought help you be more successful in your network marketing business!

I definitely have to agree that the number one reason is lack of money.  So many times people are brought into the industry being told it won't cost them anything and they will make millions.  The truth is, if you want to make it work it's going to take an investment of both time and money.

You may be right, although a lot of people only have to spend a couple hundred dollars a month, which is WAY less than a traditional business, yet they fail anyway.

But I agree that many aren't expecting even the few hundred a month, so it's a disappointment to them and their spouse when they learn that it's a real business and needs time and financial commitments.

BTW, nice store!
