Years ago a Peace Corp worker stayed in my house and she loan me this very interesting book on Native American animal medicine and she also loan me her pack of animal cards. It was so interesting that I made...
Totemism played an active role in the development of 19th and early 20th century theories of religion, especially for thinkers such as Émile Durkheim, who concentrated their study on primitive societies (which was an acceptable description at the time). Drawing on the identification of social group with spiritual totem in Australian Aboriginal tribes, Durkheim theorized that all human religious expression was intrinsically founded in the relationship to a group.( wikepedia encyclopedia-2008)
Totem Animal cards
In the most recent hub before this you were introduced to animal medicine, an ancient Native American belief that states that man and animals have an affinity called animal spiritual helpers or medicine which could help man charter his affairs , give protection and enable him to plan his life path.
A totem is regarded as an entity that watches over or assists groups of people.more recently individuals have been using them for personal protection
Animal cards are used to represent the animals. In the system that I write about there are 53 cards. 9 of them are blank. Each animal is given a number and are referred to as totem animal
Here is a list of the Totem animal cards and the numbers assigned to them Each of these carry its own individual reading and if they are laid out in spreads the positions of each card will have more significance.. Each of the cards represents a personality trait that can be associated with different individuals. Each individual is usually assigned 9 totem cards.
