Tour De France

Tour De France Bicycle Race

The Tour de France bicycle race is a bicycle race that focuses on road bikes exclusively. It is held yearly in France and encompasses about 21 days. The entire three weeks of the Tour de France bicycle race has only two days or rest in which the riders and their bicycles are moved from the town which they finished at to another town to start another stage. The kilometers covered of the entire race may vary from year to year but there are certain areas which are always included in the Tour de France bicycle race every year.

Jerseys Of The Tour De France Bicycle Race

Classification jerseys are currently given to individuals who win in some of the smaller races that are present for some stages of the Tour de France bicycle race. There are four basic classification jerseys currently, namely the yellow jersey, the green jersey, the polka dot jersey and the white jersey.

For each bike tour stage, a yellow jersey is given to the rider with the highest general classification. This means that the biker who is the overall leader is made to wear the yellow jersey for the next stage. At the end of the Tour de France bicycle race, the overall leader will be awarded the yellow jersey. It may signify a sure win if one individual constantly wins the yellow jersey for the 21 days of the Tour de France bicycle race.

The green jersey is given each stage for the riders with the most sprint points of the Tour de France bicycle race. Points given to each rider may vary depending on the type of stage the riders are currently on. Flat stages usually garner the most sprint points while mountain stages have lower points since sprinters may have some difficulty with these.

The polka dot jersey is given each stage to the biker who first conquers a designated mountain pass. This jersey has a white base with red dots allover it. The rider who wins the polka dot jersey is called the King of the Mountain for each mountain stage of the Tour de France bicycle race. The polka dot jersey was initially brought about in the year 1975 although the honor of the King of the Mountain was already in place since 1933.

The white jersey is given to the best rider under the age of 25. This is a relatively new jersey which honors the rider who is most aggressive and initiates a break away from the main group.
