Champakkulam Boat Race is famous for its native boat race along the streches of alappuzha backwaters.

An incredible sight for the spectators eyes is the lining up of chundans (snake boat) in water by performing colourful arts with parasols during the race. After that, a proper race is organized in various stages for different categories of boats.Its highlights are a ceremonial procession on the water, spectacular water floats, decorated boats, and of course, the race of majestic Chundanvalloms (snake boats). The song of the oarsmen, the Vanchipattu, and the breathtaking Chundanvallom race are the other attractions of the event .The heritage of kerala gets demonstrated by the Champakkulam boat race.

Nehru Trophy Boat Race is an annual event  on the Punnamada Lake near  Alappuzha, Kerala is the most competitive and popular of the boat races in kerala.It is held every year on the second Saturday of August. Nehru Trophy Boat Race of Kerala is not only popular in India but also throughout the world. The first boat race on the Punnamada Lake was held in the year 1952 in the honor of visit of late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, to Alappuzha. He himself awarded the trophy of boat race to the winners and from that time onwards, the trophy has been named as the "Nehru Trophy". This trophy has a shape of a snake-boat in silver and is positioned on wooden abacus. The trophy is also emblazoned with the words of Pandit Nehru, "To the winner of the boat race which is a unique feature of community life in Travancore-Cochin". One of the most famous boat races of Kerala, Nehru Trophy Boat Race promotes unity and fraternity among people.

Aaranmula Boat Race-The oldest river boat fiesta in Kerala

Aranmula boat race, one of the most popular boat race in Kerala , held during Onam(August-September)in the Pampa Lake of Aaranmula village,Kerala.The main attraction here is a  fleet of thirty boats participating 100 feet long boat races,manned by a crew of more than 100 men,which is a part of Aaranmula Temble Festival .It is a two-day event where one can see tha true meaning of friendly rivalry.There are usually around 100 oarsmen,20 singers and 4 helmsmen on a single boat,beautifully decorated with silk parasols and golden lace.The oarsmen sing traditional boat songs and wear white mundu and turbans.Thousands of people gather on the banks of the river Pampa to watch the boat race.
