Betta fish are some of the smartest fish you can keep, but being smart isn't always a good thing. The downside of being smart is that boredom is only a few hundred circles of the rank away. What can you do to stop your precious fish from getting bored? Buy toys, of course!

All the toys profiled in this article are Betta safe toys from Zoo Med. You can find them in your local pet store, or buy them online.

Betta Bed Leaf Hammock

This is a suction on leaf that you stick near the surface of the water. This allows your betta to sleep close to the surface of the water as they would do in the wild. Unlike a lot of other fish, Betta do not constantly need to be on the move, and quite often look for a comfortable place to rest. This leaf hammock is the perfect place to do just that!

Betta Floating Log

The floating log gives your betta fish somewhere to swim about during the day. Bettas will hide inside, play through the log, have a nap or build a bubble nest inside it.

Betta Mirror

You should never leave a mirror in a Betta's tank for more than five minutes a day. Bettas see their reflection in the mirrors, and if they are males will start flaring and displaying their fins. This is fun for a wee while, but it can quickly become stressful and tiresome for your Betta if they must continuously defend their territory from the mean flaring fish through the glass.

Other Ideas

Of course, you can always make your own toys for your Bettas, just make sure that anything you put in the tank has no sharp edges and that it is aquarium safe. It's best to only put things in the tank that are sold specifically for fish tanks, because that way you know that they will not slowly be poisoning your fish. Bettas enjoy all sorts of toys and always appreciate places to sleep and places to hide.

Your Betta's tank should have at least a few ornaments and some cover in it for him or her to enjoy. If there is not enough room for a toy and some plants, then their tank is too small. Bettas should have at least a two gallon tank, and most are happier with five, if you can manage it.

Provide your Betta with fun and stimulation, clean heated water and good food and they will reward you with a good couple of years of companionship and entertainment.

That is so cute to have toys for fish. I've noticed Betta fish do enjoy pants. I think they have cute personalities, but I know they are a feisty fish at times.
