TracVision M3-DX Answers
There are several questions from the community about what exactly is the TracVision M3-DX, how does it work and where does it work etc… I’ve decided to compile a bunch of these questions with their answers.
What is the TracVision M3-DX?
The versatile, high-performance HDTV-ready TracVision M3-DX allows boaters to watch their favorite satellite TV programming from DIRECTV (KU-band broadcasts only), DISH Network, ExpressVu, and Sky Mexico, along with European, and regional satellite TV services around the globe. This full in-motion systems offers unsurpassed in-motion tracking and outstanding coverage as far as 100-200 miles offshore.
Will I be able to receive Sky Mexico broadcasts using a 14-inch TracVision M3-DX system?
The TracVision M3-DX is fully capable of supporting service from Sky Mexico. If you're planning on enjoying Sky Mexico service all the time, ask your TracVision dealer about getting the TracVision M3-DX pre-configured for Sky Mexico. If you're planning on switching from U.S. services like DIRECTV or DISH Network to Sky Mexico and then back again, KVH also offers a conversion kit that allows a simple, straightforward switch back and forth.
I want to get HDTV service on my boat. Will the TracVision M3-DXsupport this?
Absolutely. The in-motion TracVision M3-DX supports HDTV programming from DISH Network and ExpressVu.
Does the TracVision M3-DX support European satellite TV services? What about Sky Mexico or other regional services?
Thanks to its versatile multi-satellite control box, the TracVision M3-DX offers easy access to satellite TV programming from DIRECTV, DISH Network, ExpressVu, and Sky Mexico, along with European, and regional satellite TV services around the globe.
Does the TracVision M3 support high-definition TV programming?
No, the original TracVision M3 does not support HDTV programming. However, the TracVision M3-DX along with our 18-, 24- and 32-inch antennas all support HDTV.
What is the HDTV Tri-Sat AutoSwitch?
KVH's Tri-Sat AutoSwitch allows TracVision owners to receive the limited number of high-definition TV (HDTV) programming available via DIRECTV's Ku-band satellites as well as switch among as many as three separate satellites using just your remote control.
What's happening with DIRECTV's HDTV programming?
DIRECTV® HDTV Fact vs. Fiction
The HDTV universe has been abuzz recently with some changes underway that may affect in-motion, high-definition programming. KVH is happy to help sort out the confusion for vessel and vehicle owners who want their HD and their in-motion access, too.
What, exactly, is changing?
DIRECTV is expanding its high-definition programming and moving it to newer, higher-capacity satellites that broadcast in a different frequency – Ka-band – and removing it from its current HDTV satellites that use the Ku-band satellites.
I enjoy HDTV using DISH Network or Bell ExpressVu. Is anything changing for me?
Not at all! If you subscribe to HDTV with DISH Network or Bell ExpressVu, you can continue to enjoy HDTV – whether you’re stationary or in motion – just as you do now.
What is the timeline for changes to DIRECTV’s high-definition offerings?
DIRECTV has to convert more than 16 million home subscribers as part of this transition, a process that will take a while. Based on KVH’s conversations with DIRECTV, a limited number of HDTV channels should be available on the existing Ku-band satellites well into 2008 and possibly into 2009.
I currently get DIRECTV standard-definition programming. Will I still be able to watch TV on the go after the transition?
Absolutely! DIRECTV is only making changes to its high-definition programming, so your standard-definition programming will continue to be available on your existing satellite TV antenna.
I bought an in-motion satellite TV system so I could enjoy high-definition programming when the vehicle is in motion, not just when it’s parked. Is that still possible?
Yes! KVH’s in-motion TracVision systems are all compatible with DISH Network and ExpressVu HDTV, so with a subscription to one of the many HDTV packages available with these two services, you can continue to enjoy all the premium, high-definition programming you like, even when the vehicle or vessel is moving.
How can I get high-definition (HD) programming?
KVH is pleased to offer TracVision satellite TV systems that are fully compatible with HDTV programming from DISH Network, ExpressVu in North America as well as high-powered DVB-compatible broadcasts internationally. Some TracVision systems may also be configured to support DIRECTV's Ku-band HD broadcasts and a limited number of available HD channels. For details regarding DIRECTV HD support, contact the KVH Sales Department.
