Yes I'm absolutely furious and fed up by these so called 'Free' Reverse Cell Phone Lookup services. There are a bunch of websites claiming that they do Reverse Cell Phone Number Lookups for free. I've been to many of them and I am really frustrated, disappointed and furious as I have not yet come across a single 'service' that actually did a free reverse cell phone lookup.

So I set aside my frustration and anger and sat down to do a proper research on this

Firstly, all these sites that promised a free mobile number lookup were fake, at least the ones that I went into. They did give a little bit of free information such as the local area that the cellular phone was registered to, but I doubt if that would be helpful to anybody. Secondly, according to my research, it is theoretically not possible to get cellular numbers for free.

Wireless numbers have purposely been 'unlisted' from telephone directories for a reason

They are deliberately kept away from the free phone books to keep them away from telemarketers and identity thieves and prank callers and so on. However land phone numbers are freely available on many telephone directories published both locally and by each telephone service. But that is the complete opposite of cellular numbers. They have been purposely unlisted, so how can anybody give them for free?

Some were not only not free, but also the most expensive ones that I found

Yes that was really disappointing, but it's the truth and you may have experienced it too. These websites have to pay to get this information. So how can you expect them to pay for something and then to give it away for free? Had they told the truth instead of using a marketing tactic to attract people saying it was 'free', that would have been totally acceptable, but unfortunately they chose a different route. But I guess they pay for it because nobody that visits those websites would buy from them.

Conclusions of my research

Although these numbers are not published for free public access, these numbers are recorded by the law enforcement authorities for use in emergency situations. There are certain third party companies (including those 'free' ones) that have been given the legal rights to access those databases for a fee and you and I can get our Reverse Phone Number Lookups done through them. I was finally able to get hold of a genuine service that gave very accurate data. However they didn't promise to give me a Free Reverse Cell Phone Lookup, but it was the most economical service that I could find.
