55
Have you ever had the desire to work at home or have your own home based business? If you're a new parent, want to be home more with your family or you're just seeking a change from the typical 9-5, then you've probably thought of working at home a lot! Are there things that are holding you back from making this a final decision? With the economy being the way it is now you probably need to work in order to help support your husband and family financially.
It's not an easy feeling. In fact, it's something that weighs you down. You've listed the pros and cons, have done your research and know with all your heart that this is something you want and need, both physically and emotionally. In making your list and comparing them, you've noted the benefits of working from home versus having a day job that you commute to. A few of the major benefits is saving on the cost of gasoline, having a nanny or paying daycare and the expense of purchasing uniforms or clothing. Then you've waged the costs of working at home versus having your own home based business. If you're not prepared for all of the start up costs and learning that's involved, but still have the burning desire to work from home, there is still hope for you. So where should you begin?
One area that you can work in, without having to worry about financing the start-up costs, learning your new business and managing your new business is in non-clinical health care. Non-clinical health care involves health information management, which includes the profession of Medical Record Analyst, Medical Record Technician, Health Information Management Director, Cancer Registrar, Medical Transcription, and Medical Coding, and many more. Non-clinical health care professionals have minimal interaction with patients, if any at all. Non-Clinical Health Care professionals work "behind the scenes." They do not offer any type of patient care. Health Information Management is not limited to these listed professions. Out of these professions, Medical Transcription and Medical Coding can be performed at home. You will be required to receive training for these professions. Most companies that hire coders require them to have experience, along with some transcription companies. However, if you train with Career Step, you will be able to gain work almost immediately as a Medical Transcriptionist. Also, most Medical Coders have to work two years or more to gain work experience in efforts of becoming a certified medical coder. Credentials are a must for any medical coder.
So, why non-clinical health care? If you're like a lot of individuals, you may not be the "hands-on" type. I know I'm not. I think people who give direct patient care are very special people. But, let's say you're interested in the health care field or presently working in health care and desire a change, then becoming a Medical Transcriptionist or a Medical Coder might be the profession for you. These two careers are in great demand! There are more open positions than there are qualified people to fill them. That's where you come in. You can train for a year or less and possibly gain immediate employment. If you have a firm understanding of Medical Transcription and Medical Coding, then you know there will always be a need to have these positions filled. You will be entering into a career that is stable, secure, and offers great pay.
