Are you considering training your dog at home? If you are then you need to be prepared with the right information. Many of us treat our pets as part of our family. At any given time, we can love them or be angry with them. But in the end, it doesn't matter what they do as they are a member of the family. If you are, there are a number of guidelines that should be followed in order to make your training successful. Some of them are:

• Make sure you gather any materials before the training session such as leash, treats, toys, etc. This will ensure continuity in the training and less confusion for your dog
• Make sure to train in short intervals only. Dogs can only take in so much at a time
• Keep the training away from distractions such as crowds of people, other dogs, cars moving on busy streets, and noises such as radios
• Be repetitive. For example, don't change the way you are trying to teach your dog how to heel. Stay with the same method so the dog doesn't get confused
• Be patient! Every dog is different just like people, and they will take different times to learn each new exercise
• Do not yell at or strike your dog! This will hinder any progress as it will make your dog become nervous and lose concentration thus being harder to train

If you just take a few simple steps before and during the training process, you will have a much better chance of success, and will spend much less time going over the material until your dog has learned it.
