Emily Mortimer

"Transsiberian" Mini Review

I saw a nightmarish but interesting movie last night: "Transsiberian" starring Woody Harrelson, Ben Kingsley and, best of all, Emily Mortimer, Harrelson's wife and the female lead. The movie was about two Americans, Harrleson and Mortimer, traveling by train from Beijing to Moscow on the Trans-Siberian Railway, who became involved with some heroin smugglers and the Russian police. Reminiscent of "Gorky Park" but not as good a movie.Emily Mortimer seemed familiar but I couldn't recall what movie I'd seen her in. I was struck by her outstanding performance, resembling Laura Linney, so I looked up her bio and, sure enough she's about as far from Britney Spears as you could get: Oxford graduate, Moscow Arts Theater; father the author of the Rumpole on the Baily series; one child with Alessandro Nivola. In "Transsiberian" she played a nuanced character capable of evil and good. And sure enough I'd seen her a couple of years ago in a nice little independent movie, Lars and the Real Girl.

You're likely to be seeing more of Emily.[And if you'd like to see more of her, check Google images!]

The Spanish actor,Eduardo Noriega, and Kate Mara were also quite good. Kinglsley was his usual intense, menacing self.
