Travel to And Within North West Australia

Once in the region, you can travel around by bus, tour, car hire or charter flight. Australia is a big country and Western Australia is the largest state.

Fly

Flights to Western Australia and the North West are easily accessible from within Australia. There are currently no International flights direct to the Kimberley region. At this point, all international flights to Western Australia land in Perth.

As air travel is the fastest way to reach your destination it can often turn out to be cheaper in the long run, as what you spend in air travel you can save on accommodation and other costs associated with other travel options. Commercial airlines offer flights across the state to the major destinations, such as Albany, Broome, Esperence, Emouth, Kalgoolie, Geralton and Karartha.

Regular charter flights to other locations are also available.

Bus

Travel by bus is an economical option for the budget conscious traveller. Remember that distance is always an issue when finding your way around this remote state, so consider breaking up your trip with stop overs and weekend stays.

Car & Campervan Travel/Hire

Main highways run the length of the West Australian coast plus there are plenty of places to arrange car hire in the region. Many hotels, visitor centres and airlines offer car hire services in Australia. Travelling around Western Australia by car is by far the best way to enjoy the journey. Road trips are for those who have time to explore and experience remote destinations.

4WD (Four Wheel Drive)

Hire a 4WD and see place off the beaten track! Many visitors to the Kimberley Region enjoy combining a 4WD adventure with a guided camping and sight seeing tour. Tours depart from various locations, like Broome for example.

There are some roads that are 4WD access only, particularly during the wet season (September - April) so if you plan on driving around our great state be informed of road conditions and safety issues before departing.

Train

Trains travel to Perth and across Western Australia. Depending on where you want to go you may need to combine coach and train travel to reach your destination.

@mulder - thanks for & will do : ) The kimberley is the most beautiful part of Australia in my opinion. As a drive tour - I would recommend it above any other coastal drive. Australia's outback is unique & us Aussies love it.

@ helder - I hope Australia is near the top of your list! - lol

@ jacob - now is a great time to visit Australia's north. It's our winter, so the humidity and temperatures are low. It's a great hemesphire-lol
