The increase in international travel is said to be the main cause of the widespread of bed bugs. Though they had once been claimed to be annihilated, they are now back and with a wider range. Across the globe, there are many cases of bed bugs infestation that had been reported proving only that indeed, they are back to again bring those negative things that they had brought before.

According to many, bed bugs first came from Europe. They were then brought to the US by the colonists via the sailing ships. From there, bed bugs then started to spread to other countries leaving a trail of negative effects.

But what are those negative things?

Well, there are many things that bed bugs can bring. However, they can generally be considered as much more of an annoyance than a health threat. True, they bite and feed on human blood. However, there had been no proven claim of a transferred disease through those bites.

Needless to say, it is still important to get rid of bed bugs. Apart from the bite, they can put down the cleanliness of your house with the dark spots that they can leave and the somewhat sweet yet musky smell that they can produce.

And so to keep away the negative effects of these pests, their infestation must first be prevented. One major step to get that accomplished is by preventing your self from bringing bed bugs from your travel, be that in local places or in other countries. How do you do that? Here are some of the things that you can do.

  • Before settling for the night, check your room’s bed and furniture for bed bugs. It doesn’t really matter where you are, hotels, hostels, motels or dorms, they all can be infested. Cleanliness is not really big of a factor to cause these bed insects’ infestation so you really have to conduct an inspection no matter where you will decide to let the night pass on.

  • Bed bugs can also be present on buses and trains so look before you seat. Look for quick signs that will indicate their presence. In hotels, dorms and other places where you can stay for the night, make sure to also inspect cracks and crevices.

  • After you have gone from your trip, do not bring your luggage directly inside your house. Check it first for bed bugs. If possible, clear the content of your luggage outside the house to make sure bed bugs won’t enter your house. Even you clothes and souvenirs must be promptly checked too.

With these easy to implement steps, you can keep your travel fun and bed bugs free. If you get to implement these three steps, in a way you also kill bed bugs preventing its damaging effects.
