Not many people have heard of Travertine Tile. This is a type of limestone that also belongs to the same family as marble. Marble is harder because it has had more heat from the earth’s core and more weight on it while it was forming. Travertine tiling is less expensive than marble but will just look as great in most uses.

Travertine tiles can not hold up to acids very well so there may be some concern with using it in the kitchen where juices can spill and damage the tiling over a period of time. Even if you use some products that will seal the stone, this damage may occur. The bathroom would be much better suited to a Travertine tile.

The colors that Travertine tile come in are usually muted and soft. These colors would be perfect for a bathroom where you would want to have soft colors for when you are relaxing in the tub. From light tan to darker gold and terra cotta, the Travertine tile will fit most bathroom decors.

There are four finishes to the Travertine tile. The first is polished which gives the tile a high shine and would work nicely on the bathroom walls. It would also work well on the floor as the tiles can be purchased in many different sizes. A polished tile will offer a very shiny floor and will reflect a good deal of light to make the room seem brighter.

The second type of finish is the honed finish, this is another polished stone but it does not have the shine of the polished. It is more of a subdued shine that would work well in both applications. If you do not really like the high polish but still want a bit of shine, this would be a good finish in your bathroom.

The third type of finish is the brushed finish. This finish is not polished at all and allows for the natural stone to be the star. This stone is not smooth either and it has some texture to it. Those who are looking for a more natural look will love this choice of Travertine tile.

The final finish for Travertine tile is the tumbled finish. This is the most natural of all the finishes. This stone will not be finished at all and will have more texturing than any of the other finishes. To have the most natural looking tiles this is the obvious choice for anyone. You can also use this type of tiling for the floor or around the bath tub.

When you go with the Travertine tile there are only a few choices you need to make. The first is the size of the tile that you will put either on the floor or around the tub. Next is the color of the tiling you will use to match your décor. The final thing is what finish you want your tiles to be.
