Self-Healing for Abrasions
No-one can go through life without scraping their skin and developing bruises, abrasions are a fact of life, albeit a painful one. It happens when the skin is scraped away as a result of rubbing against something which is abrasive such as a fall on a hard surface.
Typically children tend to be most at risk of receiving an abrasion and this is because they run around at high speed, often with less awareness to what is around them and constantly knock into things. Although it may be painful when it happens and the pain experienced may be a slight burning sensation, with a little blood or weeping clear fluid, they are fairly quick to heal.
They are usually red and may be surrounded by an area of swelling and certainly be inflamed. As much as they will heal quickly, it is important that they are kept clean so as to not become infected. Any foreign properties should also be removed from the area when it is cleaned.
Because children like to really experience life and are generally adventurous, it is important they wear the correct protective clothing if they are participating in a sport which may be dangerous such as roller skating or skateboarding.
Help for abrasions can come from a natural source such as:
Tea Tree Oil
Tea Tree Oil should be kept in everyone's first aid box as it is wonderful with abrasions and helps to keep any wound sterile.
Witch Hazel
Works as a natural astringent and will lesson the inflammation, it will also promote healing, as will using Yarrow.
Relaxation and Meditation
Children respond well and learn meditation really quickly and it is ideal to be able to teach them healing meditations from an early age as their visual capacity is strong. Choosing specific colours to help them heal is ideal as they can mentally bathe their abrasion in the bright colours which will help to promote inner healing as well as making them feel peaceful and content.
