Treating Dry Skin
60Dry Skin?
Winter is always the harshest time of the year for everybody's skin. Most people rush it to the nearest drug store for some sign of relief. Unfortunately people are overlooking the essential and cheap ways to not only get a major improvement with your dry, chapped and cracked skin, but also can go a long way to prevent it.
We are made up primarily of water. For some reason, in cold weather, we miss the need we have of drinking enough water. During the summer, when we are sweating and working out, we we feel how much we need to drink water to replace the water as we lost. In the winter the frigid air does much the same to our body. It withdraws that water right out of us. This then cracks and chaps our skin, leaving it dry and itchy. Making sure that you are taking in 8 to 10 glasses of water a day will improve the chances in the battle over dry and cracked skin. Try this out for the next two weeks and you will undoubtedly see a noticeable positive change in your skin in a couple of days.
Moisture is the most important part of healthy skin so a reliable moisturizing lotion is also a good idea. It is important to find one that is appropriate for your skin type so you don't end up with oily skin. I always recommend using a cream because it is thicker and will provide more protection for the skin. Also spend a minute to read the label. The cream or lotion that you use in the summer probably will not work as well in the winter. Avoid one with alcohol in the first few ingredients, as alcohol is a drying agent, which is the opposite of what you need. I would also suggest that you clean thr skin well before you apply the cream and make sure the skin is moist when you apply the cream it will be much more effective this way.
Dress appropriately in the winter. Don't scoff at this it is very important. Any bare skin that you have increases the opportunity that the cold air has to remove the moisture from your skin. It is also a good idea to try to layer your clothes and let that next to the skin layer be clothes that are made of cotton. Cotton will let you skin breathe, and won't chafe the skin.
Take these few simple step that we mentioned to insure your skin will stay moist this year. Drink plenty of water and cover any skin exposed. Make sure you find a good all natural moisturizer. I am sure you will not have any problems this year with your dry skin.
