Treating Epilepsy With Medicine
52For some people epilepsy is so severe that they are unable to live normal lives because of it. The seizures are so drastic that they affect their jobs and the lives they try to have while at home. When this happens doctors will do what they can to treat it using medication.
There are quite a few different types of medications that are used to help people who suffer from this problem. Most doctors will attempt to treat them using montherapy - which means that they attempt to administer them one single drug. Unfortunately the body does not always respond the way we would like.
It is possible that one is not strong enough. When this happens they will switch to polytherapy - which is the treatment of more then one epileptic drug. Once the type of treatment has been decided upon the next problem is to know which drug will work for them and which will not.
Another problem that many doctors run into is trying to find the right drug that will work for them. Too often people’s bodies will take a certain drug for a time before it acclimates to it - or no longer responds to it. This could take a few months or it could be right away. Once it has been found the medication will help to control the seizures that the person experiences.
