If acne is disturbing, cystic acne which is one of the worst types of acne can be more painful, damaging and embarrassing.

According to many dermatologists, cystic acne is a very severe condition that even the best topical cystic acne treatment will not be able to get to the root of the condition.

And due to the fact that the infection is buried deep into the skin, treatment of cystic acne is generally restricted to oral medications.

Cystic acne is an extremely painful form of acne. It is usually an infection that is deep within the tissue of the skins and can be really difficult to treat.

Unless there is a proper treatment of cystic acne, it will leave visible and permanent scars on your skin.

Causes of Cystic Acne

Though this type of acne can actually develop and break out at any age, cystic acne is often seen at the onset of adolescence and is blamed upon a hormonal change.

Over-active hormones or an excessive amount of toxins inside your body is the prime cause of cystic acne. When the pores get blocked due to the trapping of dust articles and grease on the surface of the skin, it makes your skin very susceptible to infection.

If left untreated, such bacterial infection caused by clogged pores, combined with an overproduction of natural oil, becomes more sever and develop into puss leaking pimples and zits, which are medically known as cystic acne.

Treating cystic acne isn't easy which is why it has to be dealt with at the onset before the infection goes deep into the tissue of the skin.

There are many dedicated products designed to treat the early infection on the surface of skin due to the onset of the acne. This kind of treatment of cystic acne at its early stage reduce the excess oil content from the skin and open up blocked pores to allow the skin to breathe.

But there are certain preventive measures that you can take which will help reduce this skin infection and prevent cystic acne from developing.

The very first thing to be careful of is to refrain from squeezing or picking at the cysts as this will cause the bacteria to spread underneath the skin and cause further infections.

Treatment of cystic acne at its early stage may include drinking plenty of water to flush toxin our of your body and eating a well-balanced diet consisting of fresh fruits and vegetables. Oil-based cosmetics, cleansers and hair products are also to be avoided.

How to Treat Cystic Acne?

As cystic acne is the most severe type of acne, more often that not, self-treatment of cystic acne can be really challenging.

If in doubt, it's always a good idea to seek the advice of dermatologist for the best possible treatment of cystic acne, instead of trying to administer it yourself.

The initial treatment usually involves topical or oral antibiotics taken under the supervision of a dermatologist.

And in severe cases, your doctor may recommend a very potent form of treatment known as isotretinoin, commercially called Accutane, which is a very strong form of Vitamin A.

In studies, a deficiency in Vitamin A could lead to acne as it helps to reduce your skin's oil production and acts as antioxidant that flushes toxins from your body, thus less prone to acne breakouts. This is where vitamin A plays an interesting role in treatment of cystic acne.

However, isotretinoin is not to be used by anyone who is pregnant as it has a high risk of birth defects.

While hormonal change and subsequent imbalances are blamed, possible causes of cystic acne vary from one person to another and we certainly cannot rule out other factors such as hereditary, wrong type of diet or even dandruff.

Being aware of the very root of the causes of cystic acne is the first logical step towards finding the best possible treatment for cystic acne.
