As 2009 gets off to a snowy start, brides-to-be are attending bridal shows, visiting reception sites, and trying on wedding gowns and veils.  The veil may not initially capture the bride's imagination the way the gown does but ultimately, it is the one single item that makes a bride truly a bride!

Consider the veil when selecting your gown.  Try on numerous veils to get an idea of what will looks best on you and what will best fit your bridal style.

The important trends for 2009 in bridal veils include:

The elegant, sleek, non-poufy mantilla veil is gradually becoming more prominent. It began its resurgence in 2007 and continued to pick-up steam in 2008.  Of Spanish origin, the mantilla generally features a beautiful Alencon Lace edge but may part with tradition with a satin ribbon or delicate embroidered (pencil) edge.

Continuing in popularity is the sophisticated, polished look of the birdcage veil.  It's easy, to wear, it's small in size, and best of all, it's very economical.  It can be embellished with crystals or pearls and can be combined with a glamorous fascinator headpiece for a unique, slghtly vintage bridal look.

Lace is making a strong comeback this year on all styles of bridal veils...from the traditional classic veil to the more trendy fountain veil. Alencon Lace is the typical bridal accent, other types of lace can work well also including Chantilly, Raschel, Cluny, and Venise.  Lace works well with a simple gown or one that feature a touch of lace but may be too much if the gown is one with allover lace.  However, the veil can be accented with just a touch of lace on the train of the cathedral veil.  Or a few lace appliques can be strategically placed for that unexpected "Wow" factor.  The lace doesn't have to extend all the way around the veil.

Embroidered symbols, emblems, and monograms are beginning to make an appearance on bridal veils.  Religious symbols, entwined wedding rings, doves, and other designs can personalize the wedding veil.  They can be customized in colors to coordinate with the wedding.

Crystals & Pearls continue to adorn veils.  The allover scattered look has decreased in popularity with the border or edging becoming more prominent.  Pearls are coming back strong.

These are a few of the current trends being seen in the bridal veil market.  I'll keep you posted on new trends as they develop!
