The Importance of Rest Days in Triathlon Training
Do you know someone who began training for an endurance event, but never achieved his/her goal due to a training injury. I sure do. It happens all the time in triathlons and marathons, espeically with someone training for his/her first race. Many training guides or programs do not stress the importance of rest.
Rest is crucial for recovery during training. If you over excel your muscle groups you are increasing your chances of major injury. Triathlons are great since you must train in three events, but usually a person over trains thinking they don't have as much time to prepare because they are preparing for three events, not just one.
Your body will respond better if you incorporate muscle toning and stretching to your triathlon workouts. This will allow your body to rest from training for swimming, biking, and running. Find a personal trainer to instruct you in the proper technique and exercises to target your triathlon training. Do this 2 times a week between your normal "tri" training. Make sure you also stretch after every training session.
I promise you will feel better and more prepared for your race if you follow these instructions.
