Hi Christine, thanks for the comment. I agree with your comment for a genuine tribal tattoo. Personally, I would do that, but there are many variations available now. Many people simply get ones they like the look of, which can be dangerous, if you don't know the meaning.
There are also a lot that have no meaning and simply copy bits from true tribal designs and put them together with other designs to create something that is not a real tribal tattoo.

i think if your gonna get a tribal tattoo, you should know what it means first or at least get one that has some kind of meaning. i'm native american and feel that the meaning is just as important as the beauty of the tattoo. good hub.
