Tribal tattoos go back to ancient times when almost every culture used tattooing - the oldest being that of a Bronze Age warrior who lived more than five thousand years ago.In the past, getting a tattoo was seen as a transition into adulthood - a rite of passage. In some cultures. And it was been done to the boys, who could withstand the pain of a tattoo were deemed unworthy to become a suitable warrior, which often meant tribal exile.

It's easy to design the tribal tattoos The thick, black curving lines and interlocking patterns of the tribal tattoos will give a visual appeal to many of the locations such as the upper arm and the back or the lower back. The styles of today are originated from the various tribes from Borneo, Haida, and Native Americans, Celtic tribes, Maori and the Polynesian tribes. And the designs are usually taken from the mythology and view of the world.

Today, tribal tattoos are still used to pay homage to ancient ancestral ties, but also attract people because they are visually intriguing and expressive, and it is becoming something of a modern phenomenon as they are among the most requested designs around. Almost everyone seems to have heard of tribal tattoos and they want the bold, often black outlined designs tattooed on their bodies.

While the tribal tattoos that we have now are often not the same as the tribal tattoos of the ancient world. Rather they are a mixture of ancient tribal tradition and modern tattoo design. Now the Celtic knot is popular and so are stylized versions of the heads of animals. You may also see sunburst tattoos and these also are reminiscent of the tribal traditions
