Beagle dogs should be bought from an experienced kennel or breeding house that offer an completly healthy puppy.

Beagle dogs are also popular because of their temper which is even and because they have very few health problems.

Training must be consistant and lifelong. Beagles need a job and direction and a good amount of exercise, particularly when young, to be happy members of a household.

Training beagles requires you to focus their energy so that they are controlled. If you own a beagle, make sure they have a lot of space to run around otherwise they will do it in your house and cause lots of problems.


Beagle Obedience Training

Obedience training is the first place to start. It is important to remember that your Beagle puppy does not speak the same language that you and I do.

Obedience class is the way to go, but you must first wait until your dog is old enough. These classes will teach your dog that you are the leader of his pack, while at the same time give you the tools you need to effectively train your dog. Obedience is forthcoming and discipline becomes a way of life. Simply put, if you are the Alpha dog, you're the one in charge.

Pocket Beagles A Myth!...

Pocket beagles were much in favor with the Royal Family. Edward II and Henry VIII adored small beagles which were so tiny that were called "glove beagles" because they were small enough to fit in the gauntlet.

Pocket beagles were bred in the 1300's and 1400's and were said to be about 9" at the withers (shoulder). There is no such thing as a modern-day pocket beagle and in fact, the term "pocket beagle" has become synonymous with poor quality puppies bred for the pet market, and often sold to pet shops.

Pocket Beagles are have commonly had cataracts due to mixed breeding. Ligament problems are also common among them. Pocket Beagles must be consistently trained when it comes to rules and commands. Other members of your household should also go by the same rules and commands while dealing with the Pocket Beagle. Pocket beagle puppy care is similar like other puppies.
