Trip Ideas for Anti-Boredom Month
62
Betcha didn't know that July is Anti-Boredom month. So you can whine about being bored like Garfield. Or... you could actually do something. Something fun and exciting.
Like a bear viewing tour in Alaska, at Brooks River Falls, Wolverine Creek or Katmai National Park. A 5- to 10-hour bear-viewing tour offers a unique insight into the creatures' culture, which you'll never see on the Discovery Channel.
Many bears have become so accustomed to human presence they tend to ignore visitors and carry on with their normal routines. And usually, getting to a bear-viewing spot is an experience in itself. You'll fly over glassy backcountry lakes, cragged mountain peaks, massive ice fields, pebble beaches, golden tundra, and a wealth of rugged wilderness. More details here.
Helicopter Tour
Speaking of flying, you might want to plan a July trip to Las Vegas, and consider spending half a day on an aerial tour of Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, and the Hoover Dam. Spectacular and magnificent, sweeping views that will take your breath away. You can see Boulder City and Lake Mead.
Convinient pick up and drop-off points at Las Vegas hotels, and leaves daily. The actual flight is 80 minutes, and with the pick-up and drop-off and time in between, takes about 5-6 hours.
New York City
If prickly grizzlies and sweeping architecture isn't your kinda thing, then there's always New York City - which has something in it for everyone.
Crazy about food? Hit the streets with Famous Fat Dave's Five Borough Eating Tour on the Wheels of Steel.
Dave knows everything about everything in the Big Apple, and you'll be treated to the best fare being offered up by restaurants in New York.
Interested in geeky stuff? Here's an itinerary for a geek tour of New York City.
Fashion? Head for a tour of the Meatpacking District.
Shopping? Fifth Avenue shopping tour.
Speaking of 5th Ave shopping, if you're a serious shopaholic, then many New York hotels, including the Plaza and the Marriott Marquis, offer 'Shop til You Drop' specials.
Adventures by Disney
I know - you don't need me to tell you about summer vacation in DisneyWorld or Disneyland. But Disney isn't just about the 2 parks. They can also recreate the magic on the road. It's called 'adventure in a controlled atmosphere.' Or something like that.
Point is that they offer these adventure vacations in 22 worldwide destinations. Everything is taken care of and you have an adventure guide and nothing to worry about. So you can enjoy the adventure and so can your children.
North American destinations (for 2009) include trips to Alaska, Grand Canyon, Glacier National Park and Canadian Rockies, Hollywood (includes back stage tours of Walt Disney Studios), mid-atlantic (Philly, DC & Williamsburg), Northern California (Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, San Francisico), and a Wyoming Wild West journey with trail rides, campfires, nature hikes and rafting trips. More details here.
Bottomline is that to celebrate anti-boredom month, you're gonna have to get up off the couch and make things happen.
