Troop Updates from October 2009
72Troop Updates from October2009
Okay my Fellow Troop Supporter's, I have done some homework since my last hub and I have a lot to report back to you on. October was the worst month ever out of the whole 8 years over in Afghanistan with record causalities. I know for myself, I felt absolutely heart broken, I felt beaten in some ways. In-fact to be quite truthful after we lost the 22 Troops back to back, I didn't look at the news or open any of my e-mails for 5 days. I just couldn't bare to hear no more. I have instant alerts set to my email for any breaking news coming out of Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan.
Well,..As we all must do,..
Just like the Troop's,... is push ahead and keep going forward. So,..Speaking of going forwards,..The following hub is what they need and this is how you can help. I also have some great stories from the "Front Lines" that doesn't do anything less than motivate you. I got some great music I want to share and some new links that some may find resourceful and maby even needed.
No words needed for this pic,...
Project Update's
In my last hub Troops-Shout-Outs I had a section with project's being done by our Troop's. I have kept a close eye on how they are going and I got to say right off the bat,..
These Troop's are Thee Best.
Being a Service Member goes further than just their fighting abilities, They have heart,..Like no other and they have proved it year after year, day after day, minute after minute. They go to place's, most of us would run from, they do it with a courage and un-selfishness.
And yes,...you know I'm gonna say it. "We here back home need to stand behind these guys and gals".
Congrad's To,...
One of the "shout-outs" Was from the Marines this project was headed up by 1st Lt. Mike Kuiper. They needed donations for solar- and hand-powered radios to give to families in Helmand Province. They needed to raise $10,000 to fulfill the request of 1st Lt. Mike Kuiper U.S. Marine Corps. Well I'm happy to share this note with you from Jim Hanke,
"Thank you! On Tuesday morning we kicked off a matching donation campaign in support of the Marines request for solar- and hand-powered radios. A Spirit of America supporter - a businessman from the Lone Star State - made a very generous offer: he would match $10,000 in donations to buy the needed radios. In first 24 hours of the campaign, our supporters contributed $12,867. 100% of these donations will be used to purchase and ship the requested radios. Thank you! "
~ Jim Hake
Another great update,...
Is about, Army Sergeant Major (SGM) "Mack" McDowell who headed up "Operation Spicy Devil" a project to supply Saffron Bulbs to Assist Afghan Farmers.
Army Sergeant Major (SGM) "Mack" McDowell's project to bring saffron bulbs to Afghan farmers as an alternate to planting poppy crops was so successful that he was nominated as a CNN Hero. Generous donors from Spirit of America and the determination of Sergeant Major "Mack" McDowell provide 40,000 saffron bulbs and countless other supplies.
"The saffron bulbs arrived in perfect shape. Gave them to a farmer who tried to grow saffron once before, but had bad bulbs. He has a big farm, and now has the perfect saffron bulbs. Got some good pics, which I will send when the pace slows down here. Thank you very much for making this possible two times in a row. Thanks to Spirit of America, and all those who support, there is now saffron growing in Zabol Province, Afghanistan, for the first time in many decades. This is the start of an exciting new beginning for the farmers. Thank you very much for caring and helping."
~ V/r, Mack
The project's still underway at Spirit of America are,....
The following are project's currently going on right now at Spirit of America. Our troops knows what it is they need the most to get the job done, to keep it safer for them and to over all making a huge difference in these peoples lives. When they give the shout out,..It's up to us here back home, to say,.."We got your back".
Marines Need Instant Cameras and Film
The instant Camera's is a great opportunity for interaction with the local people.
Lt. Mike Kuiper says,
“Taking pictures of kids has helped them not be afraid of us, and shows we are friends. Winning over the kids makes us much more approachable by the adults too."
Wheelchairs for Children Injured by Land Mines in Afghanistan
MAJ Ruthman continues Cpt Terri Selph's efforts for injured children.
As MAJ Eric Ruthman writes:
"There are many land mines left over from military activity in the area prior to US and Coalition forces arriving. The children who are injured by mines are treated at the Egyptian hospital near Bagram Airfield and need the chairs to help them as they heal and learn to cope with life after their mine accident. Many of these children have lost limbs. The chairs provide them with the mobility they need and improve their quality of life immensely."
Do you think a song can change our country?
With your help, it can.

Amen,..Gendarme
Great Hub, thanks for the updates. One other support group I have discovered, that you and hopefully thousands of others will look into, is doing great work and needs our support.
The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund and National Intrepid Center of Excellence is building a new Hospital in Bethesda Maryland, adjacent to the Walter Reed Medical Center. This Hospital is dedicated to the research, diagnosis and treatment of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and other psychological disorders. A link to their website is below.
http://www.fallenheroesfund.org/National-Intrepid-
I discovered this when I saw in an interview with Bob Barker (of Truth or Consequences & the Price Is Right fame) quietly mentioning he donated 3 million dollars to Intrepid because they provide direct help to wounded warriors.
Good work! Keep it up! The more troops we send to Afghanistan the more casualties there will be.
readytoescape,..You are absolutely right about The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, They are Awesome and even more so,.. so needed. Infact the http://militarytroopscalendar.com/home.htm they give a large portion of the money they receive to the Fisher House and the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. (They also have banners you can download and display)
We have well over 300,000 troops who have suffered some kind of injury while serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere in the War on Terrorism. So yes, it is an important cause. Thanks for sharing the link,..that's what I call Team Work !!! HOOAH !!!
Ralph,..Saddly your right too,..They (The Taliban) seem's to have more determination than ever. Kubal was never hit before, not like that I know. Who know's why Obama will decide ,..but either way,..the only thing we can do,..is try to help one out, let them know we love em' and try to bring simple pleasure's from home such as a Snicker's Bar and a dry pair of socks to them. Thanks for the comments !!!
Way to Go AIM! Great Update! Keep in the fight Lass. To all others give till it hurts, our troops do. God Bless you and God Bless America...
Hmrjmr1,..You said it all in that one sentence. "To all others give till it hurts, our troops do." I think that will be a new Motto for me to repeat to other's.

Great bulletin report. It's sad that lives are being lost. Life is so precious. Just wish that humanity would understand that.
