What the Troop's have been up too,..And how you can Help !!!
Just wanted to get this hub put together and get it out. There's been a lot of up date's coming back from Afghanistan and Iraq,...The better up date's. Lately All the Troop's have been going through some tough times, as we all hear,... as the news reports come out. But in this hub, you'll see that these battle's have not come and gone, without something good coming out from it. These Troop's have cleared and secured many different area's and because of their hard work, schools are being built, villagers who needed food, medicine and just basic clothes they have been able to help, Road's have been built. No matter how big or small these deed's our Troop's have done,...It makes a "World" of difference to someone else,..unmeasurable you could say.
But with these stride's come struggles,...Struggles we can be helping them with. Here's some of their Shout Outs,...
Educate a Generation,.... Rebuild a Nation

Shout Out's from all the Marine's over in Afghanistan
Requesting the Kaito KA007L Radio's
As the news reported it was a long tough battle to clear these village's out and try to re-insure the locals we are going to protect them. The Taliban want to isolate and make Afghans ignorant. Marines seek to connect and inform. They are requesting the Kaito KA007L radio's– powered by either hand crank, sunlight or batteries. Marines 1st Lt. Mike Kuiper explains, “The Taliban continue to prevent the people from being educated, keep the people in fear, and do anything they can to gain power.” Radios will help the Marines defeat the Taliban by providing a connection to the outside world and offering better information. I know for me personally, I feel safer having my phone near by to call 911 if I feel threatened. It was also mentioned that the people of Nawa can hear that the government is working, and are less likely to join the Taliban and kill American forces. That means a lot for our Troop's,....They need to get more of these radio's out to the not so friendly area's, Every single radio you send us will absolutely help win the hearts and minds of Nawa, and also allow them to get information that dispels the lies that Taliban send.”
UPDATE - Oct.20,2009
One of Spirit of America's supporters has offered to match donations up to $ 10,000 !! If they are able to reach that goal it will buy more than 1200 radios - which will directly impact approximately 9,600 Afghanis. This is the way they will win this war.
They have already raised $4,797 so they only have $5,203 to go. You can read more and make an online donation at http://www.spiritofamerica.net/cgi-bin/soa/project.pl?rm=view_project&request_id=183 or call 800-819-7875 or via check (please write "Marines Radios" on the check and mail to Spirit of America, File 50315, Los Angeles CA 90074). Either way, 100% of your contribution will be used to buy the needed radios and ship them to the Marines.
Making Smile's,...
Requesting Instant Cameras and Film
Lt. Mike Kuiper says, “Taking pictures of kids has helped them not be afraid of us, and shows we are friends. Winning over the kids makes us much more approachable by the adults too." It was also mentioned that they love to have piture's of themselves and family members but it's something they could never afford. Simple things such as a piture, really can go a long way,..it gives new meaning to a Kodak moment.
Growing Hope,...
Army Sgt Major Mack McDowell had wrote in with his shout - out,... he is helping to provide Afghan farmers a cash crop alternative to poppy. In 2007 Mack McDowell made a similar request and he was provided 40,000 saffron bulbs and farm tools. Mack McDowell was chosen as a CNN Hero for his efforts. It was mentioned that, The farmers know that saffron, or Zaffron as they call it, is grown in Herat where the market for it as an export spice is growing. Even more, it can be grown locally, and it will lighten the load on the underground Karez system. Which also means Alot to the Troop's.
- Spirit of America

It's such a shame our media doesn't give us more of the positives coming out of these two countries. It's so great to hear the good that's happening.
AIM- Great Job! All the above are great ways to help! I would point out that every pound of community support supplies is the functional equivalent of a hundred rounds of bullets. The good will built saves lives through good intel and fostering the will to stand up to the bad guys. These are some of the efforts that truly make our soldiers exceptional, and someday will be regarded as one of the Lessons of History everyone has to learn to be successful.
Great Job AIM!
Well-written and informative Hub about a subject many are familiar with from another war, another time, that was called " Hearts and Minds "...Without the political will or the support of the American people our program failed...We are approaching that tipping point now in Afghanistan and the President needs to provide that support, quickly and decisively, and quit playing politics...These men and women in harms way are our greatest heroes and their sacrifices must not be in vain...
I have a request from a young man that I took under wing during his drug rehab program and has since been deployed to Basra, Iraq with a MASH unit...Please send small hand-held computers and any used math books to:
Specialist Jerome Aubrey
204 ASMC\Unit #015 ( Med )
APO, AE09374
He has started his own little school there teaching young and old the basics of math...Thanks, Larry
Thanks everybody for dropping by and leaving your comments.
pjdscott - it is just important, your right. Showing that we can do more than just dropping bombs will make a huge difference. As like getting into the population, taking the sun glasses off for a moment and shaking someones hand to show we are human just like them.
Amanda - That's why I decided I'd bring some of these great projects and stories to the forefront. It's overwhelming to hear just all the bad stuff, it's nice to find the good out of a bad situation.
Hmrjmr1 - Hoping those history books in the future will read,...Mission complete, mission succesful and peace found.
Larry - I definatly will put word out about Specialist Aubrey that's wonderful what he is doing,..
I too also hope Obama will start making his decisions,..
watever the pesident does, we have the ability to overwhelm his worst decision if we continue to give our love and support to our guys!! oh good for you AIM!! this one is definitely flagged a fav so I will have these addresses in easy reach!! my son is here in the states and the ones he grew up with, there were five altogether, two already dead, one suicide and one still in intelligence school, plus my B, at the p'cola, Fl naval station, his is a non deployable position but he is still and forever a Marine. I needed this article, thank you!!
RNMSN I am so glad you found it useful,..Your right we do have power in our Supporting. Infact, I am going through some more shout out's that arrived in my e-mail,..getting them organized so that i can put them out to the public also. I had not givin much thought to sharing them on hubs untill this hub, I promote them on my other site's, however I think this is a great community, with great people and I do believe I will start placing more of these shout-outs and updates in my hubs from here on out. Thanks for the wonderful feedback,..HOOAH !!!
You are the go-to source for our boys and girls over there! Thank you so much for your tireless efforts! I know my son and all the soldiers over there appreciate what you do! Thank God for your heart to inform the public!
cjv123 - Thank you for your kind words,...I have the easy job though,...And it's the least I can do. I think I will continue to write more of these,..I have a lot of shout out's
I think one of the good things that has come out of Afghanistan is how the troops and other volunteers are helping to rebuild schools there. Afghanistan has been through heck in the last thirty years, and you can tell on the children's faces they are happy when in school and able to learn.
Your right SweetiePie,..education and knowledge gives these kid's hope for the future. Everyone wants to be someone or something in life, regaurdless of race or culture. Thanks for your comment !!!
My hubby is out there in afghanistan.I know he will be home soon.love you baby.

It's really heartening to hear about some *positive* news from Afghanistan and Iraq. The various troops are in a very difficult situation, and I believe these little actions, such as organising radios for the locals, are as important as the physical fighting.
