My New Airsoft gun doesn't work - or does it?

ARTICLE BY: www.OnTargetAirsoft.com

We get a lot of emails from first time buyers indicating their airsoft gun isn't functioning properly. Sometimes you do get a lemon, that is what a good retailer's guarantee protects you from. But, 9 times out of 10 what you think might be a defective product is actually user error. Here are few things to check on your new airsoft gun before you contact your retailer for a return. These are also good things to check on your gun periodically as part of a good preventative maintenance and operator schedule.

Jing Gong HK416 - JG6621 Airsoft Rifle
Airsoft 1200maH - Mini Battery
Airsoft 1200maH - Mini Battery

Step 1 - Charge the Battery

The battery that comes with your airsoft gun will likely be discharged or close to dead when you get it. That said you need to put a good charge on it before using. Trying to fire an AEG with a drained battery can cause damage to the motor, spring or gear box as it won't have enough juice to operate those mechanisms properly. Your best bet it to invest in a good quality smart charger with overcharge protection. But, if your using the wall charger that comes with most AEGs, follow this rule for length of charge. With a completely discharged battery, Battery maH / Mah or charger = charge time. For example a 1200 maH battery on a 250mah hour wall charger will take approximately 5 hours to fully charge. Once you fully charge your battery, move to step 2.

Step 2 - Fill that Magazine

Some airsoft guns come with tube/speed loader type, 40-round magazines. Those rarely cause any problems, unless the spring or BB locking mechanism wears out. The magazine that causes the most trouble (mostly based on not knowing how to use it) is the ratchet-type, high-capacity airsoft magazine. Please keep this in mind, the last 10-20 BBs in these magazines will not feed due to lack of spring tension. Because of that you need to keep these magazines filled at all times, and fully wound to keep BBs moving into the feeder tube. As you run low you may start to experience feeding problems, this is normal. Your best bet is to fully load the hi-cap magazine, wind it until you hear the distinct "Click" sound, and then fill it up with additional BBs. Make sure the Magazine is fully-seated into the Magazine well before firing. It may take a good 30-45 seconds of winding before you here that click. Keep winding, it builds strong finger muscles.

Step 3 - Properly Set the Hop-up

One thing that new Airsoft users do is neglect to set the hop-up or worse, turn it up to full. Hop-up is the mechanism that puts spin on the BB helping it keep a flat trajectory. To little hop-up and the BB drops quickly. To much hop-up and the BB will arc up, or worse won't fire at all and/or will jam. A properly adjusted Hop-up will give the airsoft BB a nice, flat trajectory. To properly set the hop-up, follow the manufacturers directions. Turn it all the way off, shoot a round. Adjust slightly as needed. Wash, rinse, and repeat until you get a flat BB trajectory. Also be careful as some Airsoft guns have the Hop-up in close proximity to the battery cover. With these guns it can be easy to bump your adjusted hop-up dial when re-installing the battery cover if your not careful.

Step 4 - Clean and Lube it

Even a new Airsoft gun can be dirty and can usually stand a little lubrication. Always use a silicon based lubricant and do not use any lubricant that is Petroluem based. Use small amounts of lubricant, as it goes a long way. To much will attract dirt and dust, another enemy of your airsoft gun. Spray a little into the BB feeder point (in the magazine well) and down the barrel. Also any hinged parts (like the spring on a folding stock) can stand to be slightly lubricated. Using the included clearing/cleaning rod, use .22 caliber cleaning cloths to lightly swab the inside of the barrel. Change cloths until they come out clean. We recommend doing this procedure to your airsoft gun after every 4000-5000 rounds. An easy way to remember is when the bag of BBs runs out, lubricate and clean! Also, if your Airsoft gun has been sitting a while, the hop-up can dry out, so give it a lube job! Please note your airsoft gun may shoot a little erratically until the excess lubrication is expelled out of the barrel.

Step 5 - My Trigger is stuck in Semi

Sometimes, when firing on semi-the trigger may get stuck or not pull. This is a common occurance and easily remedied. Stop what your doing to risk further damage to the trigger. Place the weapon on Full-auto and fire off a few rounds. Return it to Semi and continue firing, problem solved!

Final Thoughts

Those are the biggest things to do and check on your new airsoft gun before firing it. A few other things to note:

  • Eye protection, use it! If you damage your eyes you've got worse problems than a malfunctioning airsoft gun.
  • Avoid Long trigger pulls - Holding down the trigger in full-auto fire is a recipe for a burnt out motor or damaged gear box. Keep your firing burst to 3-5 seconds at most. It will save your gun and ammo
  • Remove the Barrel Cover. Some guns come with a safety cover for the barrel. Take it off before firing, you'll notice a huge difference in range. :-)
  • Check the fuse - One of our readers suggested to check to make sure the fuse is not blown. If you pull the trigger and nothing happens it could be the fuse. Changing the fuse is going to vary from gun to gun, check your owners manual.
  • Use only high-quality BBs and never reuse them (ignoring this will result in damage to your guns internals).
  • Read the manual! Yes we know it's in difficult to read "Chine-English", but they do have pictures which illustrate how to use it properly. Besides that, sometimes the translations can be pretty funny and entertaining.

If you have followed all of these steps and your still having problems with the Airsoft gun then it is time to contact your retailer. They will probably have a few more advanced steps to follow before recommending you return it for repair or replacement.

Sounds like you might have a jam. Sometimes cheap BBs break and lodge in the Hop-Up chamber. Try clearing the gun per the manufacturers directions. Once the BBs are dislodged you should be fine. If that doesn't work, or the Jammed BBs cannot be removed you might want to take it to a reputable Airsoft Gunsmith.

Jonas,

Couple of things....is the Magazine full and did you wind it until it makes that distictive click, click (or as the Chinese directions call it "Patang!")? Did you try putting it in Full-auto and pulling the trigger? Sometimes when in semi-auto the gears don't mesh right (normal). did you try another charged battery?

If not the motor could be shot. Even if it's jammed you should hear the motor turning and the piston moving.

That's just my two cents without looking at it. Usually if the things in the article don't work or the above, you need to take it to a good airsoft gunsmith (unless your good at taking things apart and can get repair parts).

Hi, nice article. It will help a lot of newbies :-)One question though, I've got an M4 RIS and somehow it will not shoot in semi mode any more. Even when the selector switch is set to semi, it's always gonna shoot in full auto. I've opened up my gearbox to see if everything is ok and it looks that way. The selector plate looks like it's doing it's job. I've placed the gearbox back into the gun the right way (selector set on semi), but still it didn't resolve the problem. Maybe you have an idea.Cheers from Belgium

thanks for the kudos! 99% of all out of the box problems are corrected by the points in this article. My favorite one is still when people forget to remove the muzzle protector that comes on some guns. :-)

I'm assuming "placing on Auto" and firing a few rounds to mesh the gears didn't work in your case. No chipped or stripped gears? Are you able to clean the contacts on the selector switch internals. On some guns they can get gunked up from silicone oil or dirt.

If none of my ideas work then your issue may warrant a post on www.airsoftforum.com

If the motor and gearbox is turning and the piston is moving, but nothing is coming out...sounds like you've got a jammed gun. Sometimes you can easily clear jams by turning off the hopup and then using the clearing rod that came with to clear the jammed BBs out. If it's a really bad jam, you may have to take the gun apart and open the hop chamber. BBs can break sometimes and lodge in the hop wheel. If your not comfortable with working on airsoft internals, then visit a knowledgeable Airsoft gunsmith.

SPC Griggs,

On that Model, if the items in the article don't work. see if it is the magazine. If you have a spare load it up and see if it feeds BBs into the chamber. Otherwise you may have a defective model. Those double Eagle plastic gear airsoft rifles are great and pretty durable for a plastic series rifle. however, when you get a dud it's never going to be anything more than a dud.

I've tried to open them up to work on, but they aren't really made to be serviced. Very difficult to get back together too. Good luck!

OIFVETERAN profile image

OIFVETERAN  says:

Ravis,

Sounds like the clip might be defective. If your buddies have the same gun try one of their magazines to rule out problems with your clip.

Always make sure the clip is filled completely and fully wound. You have to wind and wind until you here the loud click. Keep in mind that when you remove the magazine a few BBs will fall out. That is normal, based on the design of the wind-up magazines. Also, the last 10-15 BBs will never feed, as their is not enough BBs in the magazine tube to maintain feed tension.

If the magazine is not the problem and you've tried all the items in this article I would say you have a dud. Take it back and exchange it for a new one. Good Luck!

OIFVETERAN profile image

OIFVETERAN  says:

Nathan,

Go through all the items in this article.  If you did, and it still doesn't work.  Check the following:

-is the fuse blown (happens sometimes with under charged batteries).  If you pull the trigger with a fully-charged battery and you don't hear anything chances are you blew the fuse.  If you do hear something, then see below......

-Is it jammed? Jammed BBs cause a lot of problems (non-firing, non-feeding, etc).  Make sure you turn the hop-up all the way off before clearing a jam. If you pull the trigger and the motor, gears, and piston head is cycling, you may have a jam.  If not......

-Is the magazine a dud?  If you have a buddy with the same gun swap out magazines.

If none of these things work, you may have gotten a bad egg.  Return it for exchange to the retailer you got it from.

OIFVETERAN  says:

Matt,

Not sure which Model M15 you have (CA, Double Eagle, etc), but just to be obvious...did you charge the battery completely? If yes, the fuse might be blown. If your gun has a fuse, check to make sure it's not blown. If none of these tips work, nor the ones in the article exchange it for a new one. Hopefully your retailer accepts exchanges.

I just bought my first airsoft gun off eBay and it works great. After about a week one of my airsoft magazines doesn't work anymore. Its a wind-up magazine and when you put BBs into the loader the wind with turn but you can never feel the tension or the BBs come up in the magazine. My airsoft gun is an M4A1.

OIFVETERAN profile image

OIFVETERAN  says:

dominking16 - Sounds like one of those cheap spring pistols you get a flea market. The plastic tabs inside the gun that hold the spring back break off, or the spring compresses. The result is a spring pistol that doesn't cock properly or barely shoots. Hopefully you didn't spend too much on it.

OIFVETERAN profile image

OIFVETERAN  says:

Blake - First of all make sure the BB well on the magazine is completely filled before winding.  Those magazines require a constant flow of BBs to maintain spring tension. keep in mind that the last 10-15 BBs will never feed due to lack of spring tension.  Also, make sure you wind, and wind, and wind that magazine until it makes that uniques "Click" sound telling you it's completely wound.  If it still doesnt feed you may want to take it apart and see if anything has come loose, or if there is debris that may be causing the spring or winding mechanism to stick.  If not you probably need to get a new one. Good news is the gun is probably just fine.

Any ideas?

OIFVETERAN profile image

OIFVETERAN  says:

Joe,

Not to familiar with the Crosman Guns. However, sometimes with spring pistols BBs do get lodged in the feed chamber. If you have a airsoft clearing rod or something similar (smaller diameter than barrel, plastic end..no metal) use it to try and push the Jammed BB. I've found that with spring pistols if you can move the slide back and hold open at various points, then push the clearing rod in you'll get the BB free (it does require a bit of skill or a buddy to accomplish this). Do not force the clearing rod, the BB should come free with just a little effort.

Worst case something broke inside catching the BB and the gun might be junk. Hope that helps.

I just got a 2009 JG M19A4 (Advanced Version) of eBay from Airsoft Megastore in California. The gun fires at 400-430 fps with .25g BBs. The only problem I am having with it is the hop-up. I have shot white .20g BBs on Semi and Full Auto and the BBs rise at least 15 feet up if I am shooting horizontally and the hop is all the way down. I haven't tried white .25g BBs to see if that changed the course of them yet but i was hoping to get some insight on what i can do to fix it first.

OIFVETERAN profile image

OIFVETERAN  says:

Couple of things.

-If you recently sprayed lube in it that can make the BBs fly very erratically until the excess silicone is expelled out the barrel. That usually happens after one full magazine. Depending on how much was applied.

-You say all the way down. Do you me hop up all the way off or on? If you use to much hop up, the BB will rise. Verify that and make sure you are dailing the Hop up the right way. Start with it all the way off and slowly adjust and fire, adjust and fire until the BBs are nice and flat.

-With that much muzzle velocity you might want to try .25g or even .28g to see what give you the flattest trajectory. Sometimes the faster guns are too much for .20 gram.

Hope that helps!

Jared  says:

I haven't lubed the gun at all yet. I have tested the hop up all the way down or off, and all the way up or on. Im going to try to see if using heavier BBs helps.

When i stick it in the gun it clicks into place. when i shoot only one bb comes out then if i kinda push the magazine up while its in there it shoots just fine no problems. any way i can fix this? thanks.

OIFVETERAN profile image

OIFVETERAN  says:

Jared,

If heavier BBs don't work I would say the hop up is defective. Ask the vendor for an exchange. But give the heavier BBs a try, the faster the muzzle velocity the less stable the lighter BBs are. Keep in mind the heavier you go the more the BBs cost.

OIFVETERAN profile image

OIFVETERAN  says:

Ian,

I had a gun like that once that had the same problem. It may be the magazine or the gun was assembled half-assed. If you have a buddy that has a similar gun try his magazine. If it works you know the magazine is bad. Otherwise, try the following:

-Wrap duct tape around the outside top of the magazine. That will make the magazine sit tighter in the magazine well.

-Find a tutorial online on how to disasemble your gun (google your gun make and model + "Take down"). Disassemble and reaassemble, making sure to snuggly tighten all the screws. doing this may line up the BB feed point/hop up chamber resulting in a better feed. Sometimes crappy manfacturing controls allows a poorly assembled gun to slip through the cracks. especially if it chinese made. The Chinese make solid affordable guns, but their quality control is lacking. Thats why I test every gun I ship, so I can weed out the bad eggs.

I tried some heavier BBs and the gun is still not firing close to horizontally. I looked up some videos on youtube and it sounded like if you took apart the gun and part of the hop up system, you could turn the other two gears to adjust it further than the adjustment dial would allow. It's probably the magazine. Once and a while you get one that is not built right and it fits loosely. Try a buddies magazine to see if that is the problem. Otherwise, I would find someone who knows how to disassemble your particular gun if you want to go that route. Otherwise, do a google search for "Dboys Bi-3581 take down" or "Dboys Bi-3581 Disassembly". If you have to go it alone video tape your disassembly so you can see what you did (trust me this has saved me on more than one occasion, especially opening up a gearbox).

I would hear a clicking sound or a buzzing sound eveytime I tried to fire it. I ruled out the motor, wiring, and battery as problems. Do you think taking it apart and cleaning it would be worth the risk?

OIFVETERAN profile image

OIFVETERAN  says:

stripping or buzzing combined with the inability to fire usually means something in the gearbox is stripped. either the gears, or the teeth on the piston head. See if you can find a guide on-line for opening that gun's gear box. most of the Dboys V3 and V2 gearboxes can be repaired with aftermarket parts.

It never hurts to properly open a chinese gearbox, clean out the excess grease, re-shim it, and relube.

Vladimir,

Check the fuse (your gun should have one). When that blows you'll get nothing. You can get replacements at Radio Shack. Otherwise, try another fully-charged battery, to rule out battery issues. If neither of those is an issue your going to have to be brave and take your gun apart, to locate a loose or broken wire. Check the web for video how too's. Do not open the gear box, unless you know what your doing.

Sounds like your taking good care of your AEG!! Great work!

I am not familiar with that gun. However I will tell you that Bolt Action Rifles are easier than Electric Airsoft guns. You can probably find a post on www.Airsoftforum.com or by doing a google search of "UTG L96 Takedown" or "UTG L96 Disassembly". Make sure you find something with how to videos or photos.

IMHO Sounds like it might be jammed or a loose screw from disassembly....but that is just a guess. Save the .12g BBs for guns that shoot under 200 FPS (spring pistols and plastic gearbox AEGs).

You may have gotten this question before but I didn't really see it so I'll ask again. I'vee got a Boyi/Dboys M4 SIR S-System and when I got it it was working perfect but when I stopped using it frequently it failed on me. It would sorta 'click' in the motor area when I shoot. So when I opened up the grip I would shoot it and it would make a grinding/buzzing sound close to a dentist's drill. I fixed it by moving the motor a little but it finally did the same thing again after awhile.

Any idea what this is? Chinese inferiority, lemon, or just an easy fix? Thanks!

OIFVETERAN profile image

OIFVETERAN  says:

Matt,

I doubt Chinese inferiority, as Dboys makes some pretty great mid-level guns.  However the chances of getting a lemon exsist with any airsoft gun (even Classic Army and TM).

Have you attempted to adjust the motor height (Screw on bottom of handgrip)? This moves the motor and it's pinion gear closer to the Bevel Gear Teeth in the gearbox.  Your Gun most likely has a Version 2 Gearbox with the free floating motor mount. Those can move out of adjustment from time to time.

There is a great article on overall airsoft maintenance, to include motor height adjusting here:

hey... i've had a jg svd dragunov for a while and it's full auto. Today however; i was in a battle and the motor would spin but wouldn't fire. I took out the mag and put it back in and it fired well again but the gears sound weird in it like their not connecting right. One of my buddies told me to take out the motor and put it back in. I have also heard of gear box fine-tuners and was going to try to find one on the gone. I would like to know your opinion.

OIFVETERAN profile image

OIFVETERAN  says:

Austin,

Couple of things:

-I would adjust the motor height adjustment first. Overtime the Motor Pinion Gear can move away from the Bevel gear in the gearbox. There should be a hex head screw on the bottom you can turn to move the motor closer and further away from the Bevel gear. Here is a great turtorial on how to do that: http://www.spartanimports.com/content/index.php?op

-If that does not work there is a good chance the piston teeth or internal gears have been stripped. You'll need to purchase a tune-up kit or a new piston for and AK47/74 Gearbox. This requires opening your gearbox and and determining what part is stripped. The piston is usually the culprit as they are made of nylon plastic and wear out over time. Be advised if you don't know what your doing you can really muck things up. So, make sure you know how to open a gear box or get with someone who can. Good luck!

I doubt it's the battery. Sounds more like a motor height issues. Do a google search for "dboys M4 motor height adjustment" There are plenty of how to's on the web for motor height adjustment.

If that is not it, the piston teeth may have been stripped or are starting to strip. That would be odd for a new gun

I am not familiar with that gun. If you can still return it I would. Usually there is tension or spring loaded Teeth that hold the BB in place on spring guns. They may have broken or the Mag is not able to hold the BB in place. One way to check is load the magazine, give it a light shake. Do the BBs stay in place or do they easily fall out. If they do, its the mag.

I would contact your retailer and exchange for a new one. If you just got it, they should provide for an exchange within the first week. Every once in a great a while we get a Jing Gong that exhibits the uncontrolled shooting problem....probably 1 in 500.

what is probably wrong...when semi-automatic fire is selected, the sector gear activates an electrical cut-off as it returns to its starting position. This stops the cycle where it started ready for the next shot. Usually this cut-off switch is defective.

Could be a couple things (Besides the fact it is a BE product):

1. Could be Jammed, following the directions to remove any jammed BBs

Not sure, BE guns aren't something you usually open up to repair. Like most plastic gearbox guns, they are a pain in the butt to open and fix. In a typical metal AEG gearbox you have a cut-off switch that controls semi and full-auto. If it breaks that usually causes the gun to only shoot in one mode. DCS  says:

your trigger switch is propbably stuck, when the trigger is pulled forward a metal connector goes in between two otehr connectors that look lke the letter U when they tough they make a com[lete the circiut. Sometimes these connectors get bent or work there way back and can make a complete circuit.

Also there is a trigger spring that should help kick the trigger back. If this srping breaks, gets cocked or is missing then the trigger may not be pushed back correctley.

The trigger spring is easy to check but to check the connectors you need to take the gearbox out of the gun.

Couple of things to try:

-Make sure the gun is not jammed, turn the hop-up all the way off and follow the directions for clearing a jam.

-Place the gun in full auto, fire. If it works, the gears were just not meshed right. Common problem.

-Motor height could be the issue. Here is a great article on motor height adjustment:

I got a Echo1 g36c a couple weeks ago, now when i shoot in either semi or full auto, after the last shot there is a weird feed back, seems like its coming from the handle (where the motor is) when i take the gear box out, the motor is kinda loose (it can rotate slighty) even i adjust it to the right height.

my question is the motor suppose to be loose? and if i am suppose to feel that "feed back" from the motor. and also how to secure the motor (I tried tape, but even the thin added thickness make it really hard to put the whole thing back in the handle)

OIFVETERAN profile image

OIFVETERAN  says:

Not sure what "feedback" means. But, that motor should be mounted solidly. There might be a slight movement (around 1-2mm back and forth), but it should not be loose. Motor height could be the issue. The link for that process is listed in previous comments above.

Have you contacted the vendor, Echo1's should come with a 30-day warranty....of course now that you opened it, that may be voided.

Go through the directions as described in this article:

If that doesn't work it sounds like the magazine may be defective, as it is obviously unwinding when inserted. I have seen those magazines do that 2-3 times when first wound, after that they are good. Try winding it a few times and inserting. If it doesnt' function properly, ask you vendor for a replacement magazine. The gun is probably fine.

Great article, thanks. The string of comments and responses is just as informative!

I've got an upgraded Dboys M4sd from Airsoftmegastore.com and am having sporratic issues that are slowly being resolved by little tweaks here and there. I replaced the bucking rubber with a nice firefly hard rubber bucking to try and resolve doublefeeds and multiple shots in semi. The accuracy of the gun improved quite a lot, but in semi, the M4 motor is shooting bursts, single, or full auto without stopping. Most commonly it will go for two to three rounds and stop. Weird? I'm thinking that the issue must be in the firing rate selector switch, but before I open up that gearbox I'd like a second opinion. Thoughts on this? Thanks in advance!

There is a link a few entries above on motor height adjustment. Every AEG has the potential for the motor pinion gear to move to close to or to far away from the engagement gear in the gearbox. There are contacts in the gun for the trigger, these can get knocked out of whack and the electrical connection is broke and no power will get through. The gearbox has to come out to fix it.

Before I say the dreaded phrase "gearbox problem", have you tried another battery. Sometimes when those "included" batteries go bad, which can be quicker than you think, they can't provide enough juice for the motor to provide adequate torque to the gearbox and spring.

Grab a known good battery and try it. Make sure you have your motor height correctly adjusted. You indicated you'd been playing around with it.

1st off (here comes the lecture) never, ever, ever use .12g BBs in metal gearbox or high end spring guns. Save them for the crappy plastic springer pistols. .12g BBs tend to be of poor quality. They break (causing jams), and they will damage your hop up bucking. To round it all out they are inaccurate as all get out. Yes, they are cheaper, but you get what you pay for. Ok, I'll get off the soapbox now........

as far as the gun, you could have a very bad jam from those BBs. Follow the manufacturer directions for clearing a jam. However, if you gun is not making any noise I would check the fuse and all electrical connections. A jammed AEG usually makes some sort of effort to fire (which you hear).

Wrap Tape around the top of the mag do not cover the mag catch hole on the magazine. This sometimes helps keep the mag in place.

not necesarily. You could have a really nasty jam, or the motor pinion gear is stripped, or come loose. you can disassable that gun easily (do a google search for Dboys SCAR take down) and check the hop up chamber/air nozzle area for a jam. Also check the motor to see if the pinion gear has come loose or is stripped. If neither of those result in a fix, then your problem is internal...you'll have to open the gearbox.

did you set the hop up correctly? If it's a left/right curve the hop up arm might be a little off center. Do a google search for (HOP ARM ADJUST). It will require some dissassembly.

Also, if you gun has a metal gearbox, make sure you are using .20g or heavier BBs. The .12g BBs should never be used in an electric/metal gearbox gun, and they are inaccurate as all get out.

David,

Throw it out and get a metal gear box airsoft gun. That is a cheap plastic, non-servicable airsof gun.

Tobbs  says:

Thanks. I tested the battery and fuse and motor with a Multimeter and all check out fine. There are no obvious wiring problems. Any ideas what I should try next? Thanks again for the quik response.

Tobbs,

make sure it's not the battery. Test it with a known good battery (borrow your buddies). Other than that, maybe the motor is dead. If nothing is happening it's electrical.

David  says:

its not the plastic version, its the metal gearbox version not the older lpeg that cyma makes, when it fires, it just fires a few shots after i pull the trigger

Tobbs  says:

Thanks But I found out that the Red wiring in the metal gearbox was bad. Do you know anything about the JG Tactical RIS AK-47 with a folding stock?

Tobbs   says:

I took apart the gearbox and didn't see amthing wrong so I have no clue I tried a differn't battery so I was wondering About that AK but I have decided on the ICS MP5A5 It is not full metal but the inside is the ICS inside so it should last longer What do you think? Thanks

Tobb,

The ICS internals are very nice. We have one left on our site www.OnTargetAirsoft.com (The complete kit with battery/BBs/Charger). If you create an account (click LOG IN and follow directions for new account), you'll get a coupon in your email for 5% off your order.

David,

My bad, your right the J version is the metal gearbox. might be a broken selector plate, anti-reverse lever, or fire selector gear assembly. Wouldn't know until opened up and looked at.

I am getting a ICS MP5-A5 Will my JG 1500 Milli Amp 8.4 Volt Battery fit into The Gun

OIFVETERAN profile image

OIFVETERAN  says:

Tobbs,

It should fit if it's the mini-Battery style. your limited to mini-batteries with this model (battery goes in front grip). With a little rewire, you can mount an external PEQ box on the rail and have space for up to 2000mAh.

Tobbs   says:

The Battery Is A JG 8.4 volt 1500 mAh Mini Type Battery is that the Right Kind?

Thanks

I have a 2008 JG M4 S-System. This past weekend during play my gun continued to fire on full-auto even after I released the trigger. It seemed to work fine on semi but when i set it on full auto and pull the trigger once it fires as if i had the trigger held down. I have to switch the gun back to "safety" to stop it from firing. Weird thing is if I dry fire the weapon on full-auto it stops firing when i release the trigger, but with a full mag attached it doesn't stop. I did notice a small tear in one of my ground tires and taped it up with electrical tape. But that didn't fix it. Please help!

OIFVETERAN profile image

OIFVETERAN  says:

Tobb,

That should be fine. Although most of the mini-packs are 1000-1200mAh. just be sure, you have enough room for a pack 5" Long x 1.5" Wide x .75" thick Bigger than that and you'll need the external battery box.

OIFVETERAN profile image

OIFVETERAN  says:

Kao,

Could be a combination of things like A) the selector plate and/or B) the trigger assembly.

The selector plate is the flat plastic peice on the outside of the gearbox that moves to put the gun in Semi, Auto, or safety. If it is broken or damaged it can prevent your gun from changing firing modes. The trigger assembly sounds like it might be worn out to the point where the contacts do not seperate when you release the trigger.

These are best guesses without ever actually seeing the gun.

Daryle

The Battery is to big So should I get an 8.4 volt 1100 mAh Battery or spend more and get an 9.6 volt 1500 mAh battery what is the differnce between 8.4 and 9.6?

Thanks

Tobbs,

voltage will increase your rate of fire, but shorten motor life. mAh is the total capacity (how long it will last).

hi i bought a echo 1 zombat stryker and ive had it for about two monthes (the warranty is gone) and whenever i try to shoot on semi or full-auto it just makes a ugly grinding noise from the inside. i dont want to open up my gun because im not a airsoft expert or anything. it would really help if anyone knows what it is.

Jordan  says:

HI, I have had an Echo1 G36c for over a year and a half. Its been sitting in my closet for a few months as I haven't had a chance to play airsoft in awhile. I got it out this morning, charged the battery filled the clip, and when I fired it, it made all the right sounds but nothing came out. I looked at it and it appears that the bolt is cycling but the bbs arent getting into the tube. Its not the mag, and it will fire if i drop a sinlge bb into the feeding hole, and then use a screwdriver to force the bb into the chamber. Some people seem to think its the hop up maybe? I dont know or feel comfortable taking it apart, but any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

Kopp  says:

Kopp again, thanks for the advice, turns out the problem was that it needed grease. I threw some in there carefully and now it shoots. But my luck stopped there; now I've somehow managed to strip a screw to the motor plate and can't adjust elevation so it makes an unfixable whining and for whatever reason the hop up is unresponsive. I kinda mixied up the barrels of it and another gun when I had my gun apart and I noticed the rubber is torn so I have a replacement in there. At least it actually shoots, though. Wish me luck in figuring out this hop up problem, should've marked the barrels before they got placed together, but thanks for your advice.

Hi, I have an AGM MP007 (It's basically an MP40). It's worked fine for several months now, but just recently, I connected the battery to it and it didn't fire. I tried it with another battery, and it still didn't work.

I then procedeed to disassemble it and check the wiring. Everything seemed to be connected properly, (But I'm no technician). I'm not really sure how to check if the fuse is blown, but as far as I can tell, there's no break in it.

Now, the real problem with the gun is that when I hold the trigger down for, about five seconds or so, I hear a sizzling sound and the battery gets hot in my hand within a few seconds. The battery I used the second time was brand new, first charge, but my old battery did the same thing.

I've been in airsoft a while now, and I know the basics of taking apart a gun, but wiring was never my strong point. Thanks for any input!

Nick & Brendon,

Rule out the obvious stuff (magazine problem, battery, hop up settings, etc). If no fix, then Return those guns to the retailer for exchange or repair. Classic Army Guns should be covered by a 30-day warranty.

Jake,

I would not recommend crossman BBs. I've seen far to many of them with seams, chips, or they break in the gun causing all sorts of problems. Stick with Excel, SRC, Golden Ball, or TSD and you won't go wrong.

Hey, i just bought an m4a1 carbine. When trying to implant the battery i noticed a small tear in a black wire. I opened the gun by pullung the pin and flipping the front half of the gun down (like most m4s) and i noticed two more wires with the rubber part split but the insides still in tact. Obviously its nothing electric tape wont fix, but theyre both out of reach and im not sure how to further dissect my gun. Any tips?

I have a JG G36C with a strange problem. The mechbox will fire outside of the gun but as soon as i slide the mechbox into the lower receiver it wont shoot! I thought maybe there was a short in the wires so i checked everything and even ran the wires from the outside just to be sure no wires were being pinched...still it wont fire in the gun. It does however fire if its not in the gun. I also have a G36K and its gear box works fine in the G36c but the G36c gearbox will not in either gun. Its almost like it doesn't want to be in a gun body....I put it in a AK body and it fired!...I'm out of ideas....please help!!!!!!!

ARC,

Are you sure you do not have the hop up set to high. Too much hop can cause jams in some guns. I don't think drilling would help, the inner barrel on the M83 is plastic. You'll probably end up ruining the gun.

i have a Tokyo Marui and iv had it for like 3 or 4 years and i got it from airsoft extreme. So some of the problems iv had were when i fired it would get jammed ALOT like ever 4 bbs it jammed so i took it in and they replaced a part in the barrel. then after i got it back I would fire it then it would just stop so i took it in again!~ then when i got it back its now making weird fart sorta sounds when ever the bolt would go back. For ex when i would shoot the gun on auto it makes the noise after every shot and then on single when u fire it and the bolt stops it makes a rly bad sound grind i guss but iv never herd it befor...

Mike,

If it is NiCd, there are ways to recondition. Do a google search for "Nicad reconditioning".

If it is NiMh, take it to a recycle drop point (Home Depot) and get a new battery. Once they are toast I think that's it.

Not sure on Lipo, but they usually pose a fire hazard when overcharged. for more info check out our friends at:

It was fine, then when i tried to press down on the trigger, the trigger would be stuck, so i couldnt press it down. When i took the MAG out there's a BB up in the gun, Not in Any of the Mechanical stuff, But just in the mag holder High up in the gun, is that my problem? I Thought it was a battery problem because when it was completely charged it worked fine. The battery is charging right Now.
