Trust - A Semi Film Review in Unpoetry
66Synopsis
This film is basically about a pregnant high school drop out who has been kicked out of her home who meets a genius, albeit dangerous, man who has parent troubles of his own. The film follows the attraction and budding relationship of the two main characters against a background of colourful secondary characters. The social platforms in the background are abortion rights and feminism, relationships and trust.
Trust
I caught this baby late night on IFC, if I remember correctly. It absolutely stunned me. I was, ahem, on the computer writing, as I generally am and it started after some other film I was watching. Almost from the start I was completely enthralled.
I think this film makes important observations about life, relationships. I loved the stilted, almost Broadway acting, style of direction. The main actors, Adrienne Shelly and Martin Donovan were outstanding. The father and mother were great foils for the main characters and also as comic relief.
The director, Hal Hartley (currently pre-production on "Moving the Arts" due out in 2010), made fantastic use of a great script and incredible actors to created a biting, farcical society that expands common society largely and grotesquely enough to give us real sympathy through the main characters to the world at large behind them also.
It's an incredible film. I won't say that I can see something other's don't, but ahem, I can. Anyone looking for a voice for magic, for true love and how to recognize it, for friendship, relationships, bonding and forgiveness should see this film.
It completely amazes me that this film is almost ungettable. It's even unrentable. It's an American film, but I had to order it through EBay using a U.K. dealer to obtain this movie. Worth every bit of the time and money.

Just in case
sometimes I feel I need nobody
nobody at all, but just in case,
I wanna carry you 'round with me
carry you around, trust somebody
...just in case,
just in case I fall.
sometimes I feel like I might explode
want someone who will tag along
pick up the pieces after I'm gone
trust somebody, trust just that one
...just in case,
just in case I fall.
admiration and respect, that's it
that's what I say, you say it's love
might share my dangerous sincerity
against the mediocrity, with that one
...just in case,
just in case I fall.
sometimes I stare at the television
deaden that spark of inner core
deaden my soul just a little bit more
shut it down, death is no escape.
just in case it's not, I need you
just in case there's more, I see you.
stay with me, baby
catch me if I fall
catch me if I slow
cover me a little
just in case, you know
just in case I fall
just in case I blow.

Cover Me - lyrics
"Cover me when I walk alone
Cover me when my stance it stumbles home
Cover me, we'll trip on through the sands of time
Cover me cause I've been branded, I've lost my mind
Lost my mind, yeah, but you'll cover me, won't you
Give me shelter from the storm..."
