Federal Reserve System? We hear this word very often. It's even printed on our paper money. On the very top of each dollar, we shall see Federal Reserve Note. It's obvious to us that Federal Reserve System has the right to issue US dollars. It's must be a financial division of US Treasury or sth, at least under US Government's control. Right? You might think Federal Reserve Bank is the central bank of USA that belongs to the US Treasury, or it won't have to right to issue the most powerful currency of the world, the US Dollars.

• Why it is not named Central Bank of USA? Because it sounds stupid or something?

No. The reason for that is It's a private bank. How could a private bank be named the Central Bank? The Federal Reserve Bank sounds not like a central bank's name, and it is not. But it has the right to issue the US Dollars.
