Tub chairs have been on the scene for well over a hundred years, but have maintained their classic shape for this entire time. Although there have been some changes or additions to the look, it has stayed the same overall and you can definitely recognize a tub chair instantly. Leather tub chairs are featured in the nicest hotels and lounges worldwide, as well as in coffee shops and book stores.. There is a good reason why they have become so popular, and it basically boils down to the rich history of the leather tub chair.  Kings and other members of royalty used to sit in tub chairs, and the low arms and back seat and helped elevate them to a higher position..This gave them a sense of power, and that is part of their appeal. Even though all of the chairs are somewhat similar in design, they do each have their own special charm and character.

Leather Tub Chairs

The most common material used as a tub chair cover would definitely be leather. You have probably seen a beautiful black or brown leather tub chair.  This is most likely the case because leather really adds a touch or character and grandeur to the chair. The quality of the leather used is a really important consideration. Leather comes in different grades depending on where on the animal it comes from. The highest grade leather would be the most durable and long-lasting. You will also see different patterns that naturally occur in the leather's grain, and that is especially characteristic of the more expensive leather. Higher grade leather has a powerful scent, and that gives it some of its special character. Higher grade leather will also hold on to its natural oil longer and that will help it  stay supple longer so it cracks less easily. The cheaper grades of leather won't last nearly as long, and it is common to start seeing cracks after just a couple years. This is definitely not a good thing and after that starts it probably means that you will need to reupholster your tub chair again.

You might find that you pay more to recover your tub chair than you did for the original chair. But buying a quality chair on the front end can help you avoid this, so you should give a lot of thought to what you can truly afford before going to the furniture store.  You can also find faux leather tub chairs in the marketplace.  These are really just a chair made out of manmade materials that are intended to look like genuine leather. But you can see the difference right away, since there won't be any natural grain or pattern in the faux leather. These are generally mass produced in Asia by factories and a lot of homeowners on a budget do like them. The best use for these chairs would be as an occasional chair since if you were to use it everyday it would probably not last very long.
