Tupperware Lunch n' Things Review

I'll admit it: I have a thing for divided plates. I'm not sure if it's because as a child I was one of those kids who didn't like my mashed potatoes touching my peas, or if it's just because I like things to be organized, but if a container has dividers, chances are I will buy it.

About a year and a half ago, I started reading the popular blog Vegan Lunchbox. I am not vegan, but Jennifer McCann's recipes appealed even to me, a voracious carnivore. But I was also enchanted with the Laptop Lunchbox system she used to pack most of her son's meals. It had little containers that you could configure to best suit your needs for what you'd be putting in that particular lunch. I became intrigued about bento lunches. At a very basic level, the bento lunch is a traditional Japanese boxed lunch and many bento boxes are compartmentalized.

When I saw the Tupperware Lunch n' Things container, I immediately thought that it would make a great bento-style box for the lunches I take to work! While the box seems to be marketed more for schoolchildren (one compartment is the perfect size to hold an 8 oz. juice box), you can fit a decent-sized meal for an adult in this container.

The juice-box sixed compartment holds approx. 1 cup of food. The center compartment holds approx. 2 cups of food. And each of the two right compartments holds approx. 1/2 cup of food each. Knowing this can really help with portion control and make plating your foood easy.

The container is microwave-safe, and because it bears the Tupperware name, you can be sure it is high-quality. My main qualm with the container is that it's rather long and might not fit into smaller bags or microwaves. You also have to keep in mind, when packing your lunch, that it's all or nothing. That is, you can't easily remove one portion for the microwave, so either the whole container goes in and everything gets heated up, or else you pack food that you can eat cold or at room temperature.

All in all, I think it's a great lunchbox, especially because it reduces the amount of plastic bags, aluminum foil, and other "disposables" we tend to pack our lunches in. Every little bit helps!
